Happy Spring, Passover, and Easter!

Dear Friends and Family,

We are thrilled to welcome family and friends back to our Passover Seders for the first time since 2019. As we celebrate Passover this year, I am grateful that our community will gather to read the Haggadah, recite the blessings over the four cups of wine, break the middle matzah and afikomen, and sing Dayenu and retell the story of Pesach.

Passover remains relevant and contemporary, while at the same time a ritual several thousand years old...” Jack Santino

On behalf of the staff at The Massry Residence, I wish everyone a Happy Passover and Easter.

Best wishes,

Sharon

Welcome, Natalie and Jonathan!

Meet Natalie Russo,

Resident Care Director

Welcome our new Resident Care Director! Born and raised in the Capital Region, Natalie is a registered nurse with Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees. She spent most of her career as a nurse consultant for the Department of Justice, Department of Health and Human Services, various advocacy organizations, and law firms representing people with special needs. Natalie often participated in cases where she was a consultant and/or an expert witness. She advocated for better services, care, and opportunities for those most in need, like the medically fragile or elderly. She says, “Although the work was challenging … it provided me with opportunities of a lifetime – serving the needs of others.”

Eventually, Natalie was ready to settle down and work where she lived. She held various leadership positions throughout the Capital Region until she found us! Natalie came to the Massry as she sincerely appreciated the Massry’s respect for an individual’s philosophy of life, death, culture, and religion. She also shares our commitment to ensuring our residents are protected, well cared for, and live meaningful lives.

Natalie is an animal-lover at heart, once having a top-winning show dog named Gideon, which means “great warrior” in Hebrew. He toured the US and Canada, won Best of Breed at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club, and was the number one Vizsla in the country.

Be sure to welcome Natalie to the Massry family!

Meet Jonathan Russ,

Assistant Director of Dining Services

Looking for a change of pace after being head chef and managing kitchens for 25 years, Jonathan Russ joined the MassryResidence as Assistant Director of Dining Services. He’s always been a people person, so he wanted to get out of the kitchen and interact with the residents: his favorite part of the day! He also appreciates not working late nights anymore, especially since he is training his six-month-old golden retriever! John has been enjoying more free time as well, being able to cook dinner for his wife, family, and friends. Now that he’s not cooking all day anymore, he can enjoy cooking again.

Welcome to our new residents!

It's Time for Spring Cleaning

Clutter can increase anxiety levels and cause trouble sleeping, making focusing harder. With Spring finally here, it is the perfect time to clean out your closets and declutter. Not sure where to start? We’ve compiled some tips to help you clean your home.

Break up your cleaning into chunks.

You do not need to do all your cleaning in one go. Even cleaning for just 15 minutes a day makes a huge difference.

Separate your items into “keep, trash, and donate.”

Going through your closet, you’ll probably find items you don’t want but are perfectly useable. In these instances, ask your neighbors or family if they’re interested in anything. Finding someone to give your old things new love won't be hard.

Ask for help!

If you need assistance moving things or reaching places, don’t hesitate to ask family or staff to help!
