Allison Robinson
Founder & Chief Executive Officer, The Mom Project
Come to our May Meeting and learn about The Mom Project. The Mom Project is the career destination for moms. Through their digital marketplace and community, The Mom Project connects professionally accomplished women with world-class companies for rewarding employment opportunities. The Mom Project is changing the way women work and redefining career structures by providing women with real work opportunities that are in balance with their personal goals.
Founder and CEO Allison Robinson will be on hand to discuss how this evolution will keep more talented, professionally accomplished women in the workforce.
She drives the company's vision and strategy in redefining the path to professional success for women. Allison has spent eight years with Procter and Gamble managing enterprise relationships and building consumer-led market strategies. In her most recent role on the Pampers brand, Allison was able to delve deep into the minds and hearts of millennial moms to witness the change technology was having on the way women not only interact, but approach work.
After welcoming her first child Asher in 2015, Allison recognized the tremendous opportunity to create a talent marketplace to bridge the gap between employers looking for top talent and the millions of educated and professionally accomplished mothers across the country looking for meaningful work. Don't miss this discussion -

Tips for Smarter Living:Telling a Good Story
|
Storytelling has moved from the children's library into the workplace. Managers are now using stories to make a point, make themselves believable, and lead their teams.
Storytelling immediately brings your audience with you and helps you better convey any information you want them to know or learn.
But storytelling is also something most people are happy to avoid: it means speaking about yourself in front of people. Research has told us that people fear public speaking/storytelling more than they fear death!
So how can you learn to use this very effective way of communicating information? By doing it!
Here are a few tips to get started:
▪
Who is listening?
In other words, who is your audience - friends, strangers, colleagues? A large mixed group? You need to know this to find something that connects you to them. Knowing your relationship brings you closer to knowing a story that's right for them.

PWCC Blog:
How to Transform your Career & Reach your Full Potential
|
Over the course of your lifetime, you'll spend at least a total of 10.3 years at work and most professionals report feeling disengaged in their current position. Changing a career can be intimidating. That's why people settle and stay.
The good news is that people change careers every day. So, how do you transform your career successfully?
Here are 7 proven steps to navigate a career transformation successfully:
1. Self-Reflect
Before changing, it is important to make sure you are choosing the right career path to avoid experiencing a set-back
.
Start with a self-evaluation.
2. Plan a Future Scenario
What should your "after" picture look like? Consider worst and best case scenarios, and choose the best. What are your transferable skills? What's stopping you?

Networking Tip: Listen and Learn to Share
|
Networking is a process that evolves over a period of time, with a lot of give and take among people. And this work does not necessarily result in uber-immediate payoffs.
To build a long-lasting relationship with someone, approach networking with ways to help someone else first by offering them a valuable tip, idea, or connection. Start by listening actively. Pay careful attention to what others are saying to identify their needs and their goals. Next, think about your network, your connections, and your expertise and offer to share. Offer a valuable insight, tip or true connection. Take the next step and make a virtual introduction or better yet bring someone else along for your next meeting that expands the network and increases the connections. Fostering positive connections is critical to developing powerful long lasting networking relationships.

Calling all members!
We need your help and your creative thinking. Next year, PWCC celebrates its 20th anniversary. We have some wonderful events planned, including the anniversary celebration/membership drive.
Traditionally, our membership drive has taken place in the Spring, but for next year and going forward, we are moving the event to the Fall to help build club excitement earlier in the season. So, we can no longer call our membership event the "Spring Social" or the "Spring Board Social".
This is where you come in! Help us name our fall membership drive. Submit a name (or names) that more accurately reflects the event: a gathering of our members for networking, a draw for potential members to check out the club, a celebration of our milestones (particularly during an anniversary year), and a chance to win raffle items and prizes.
Send your submissions to
admin@pwcc.org
by Monday, May 14, at 5pm. The winner will receive a free luncheon ticket, special recognition at the Fall 2018 membership drive, and their name in the June 2018 newsletter.

May Mentoring Tip: Reach your full potential with the help of a mentor!
|
Being a mentor means being a trusted advisor: making yourself available to support and advise someone when she needs it, delivering that support in a way that makes sense to her, and always keeping that person's best interests in mind. As a mentor, you must practice active listening, making a conscious effort to truly pay attention to what your mentee is saying and not thinking about what you're going to say next. The best thing you can do for your mentee is to listen closely to what she's saying, ask open questions to dig deeper, and act as a sounding board.
A mentor/mentee relationship can last for years, or it can last one coffee date. Long-term, you really get to know and understand each other's personality, learning style, and goals, which can help you offer richer, more relevant advice over time. On the other hand, a short-term relationship may be all someone needs to get over a hump, like when someone needs help working through a specific problem.
Are you looking for a mentor? Make finding a mentor your "Ask" at the next PWCC luncheon, being specific about your need. Are you trying to grow at your current job, make a change, need personal advice? Someone at your table is bound to know someone perfect to help!
