MARCH 2023

Dear House of Hope Friend,

We have many things happening to be grateful for, and we want to keep our dedicated supporters in the loop!

Blessed by Annual Banquet

On March 9, the community came out to bless this ministry with funds needed to operate, and we are so very grateful. The Steakhouse & Lodge was filled with 180 guests for a dinner, music, and an inspiring program. We want to extend a huge thank you to the donors and supporters who make this ministry possible!

We also want to thank the sponsors who paid for the banquet expenses ahead of time, so that every dollar given went directly to the House of Hope’s operating fund. We also thank the silent auction donors for the generous items that were donated to help us raise additional funds at the banquet.

The guest speakers were Chris Lyman, a subject in the documentary film, “Church of Felons", as well as Aaron Marcoux, District Attorney for Washburn County.

Anyone who went into the evening a little unsure of what the House of Hope is all about, left with a clear sense of the ministry’s mission and how it ministers to men who are breaking free from the life-controlling nature of substance abuse.

Blessings and love in Christ,

Mike Thompson

From Our New Board President

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interest of others." Philippians 2:4

“Serving as a volunteer board member for the Greater Hayward House of Hope has been a personal blessing. We all lead busy lives so it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous. While my volunteering is a relatively small effort, I know it helps to "build up the body". As a volunteer we offer vital help to people in need and at the same time support a worthwhile cause which ultimately builds up the community. Our purpose on this earth is to love and serve others as we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And not surprisingly when we give of ourselves and our time, in simple ways, we too are blessed in mind, body and spirit. I encourage you to consider volunteering for GHHOH or some other local charitable organization or church.”

God's blessings!

Gary Nathan

We are thankful for the oversight, work, and dedication of Gary Hilgendorf during his 3 years as board president. He has been involved since the beginning and played an integral role in the formation of the House of Hope. We are forever grateful!

Executive Director Reflections & Updates

We lost a dear friend.

Recently, Mike Hansen, one of the men who assisted the House of Hope in building our new trade skills workshop passed away from cancer.

I sat with Mike several times in a variety of settings. He was a mentor to men in the House of Hope, and I had the privilege of being his friend and confidant. He was passionate about passing along the grace and love of God and wanted to invest in showing men how to live their lives in a way that glorified God and empowered them to become successful in faith, family, career and more.

One of Mike's last wishes was to have funeral donations be directed as a donation to the House of Hope to invest in our trade skills facility and program.

We are deeply grateful that Mike invested in the House of Hope, working alongside us as a servant of Jesus. His faith, attitude, encouragement and practical contributions are cherished and will not be forgotten.  Please keep Leanne and family in your prayers.

The House of Hope’s ministry model, to help men with substance abuse issues, is forming in Phillips, WI. It will be called "House of Hope for Men". They have formed a board, and are essentially using the same approach that that we are using in Sawyer County and surrounding areas. Please join us in praying for the people leading this effort and that the men in that community who need help will be receptive to the offer that God will give them to break free from the chains of addiction.

Finances

The ministry is solely funded by fundraisers and donations from the community. We do continue to apply for state and federal grants, however, we have not received funding from any of them yet.

In order to sustain the ministry, around $11,500 per month is needed.

We are working hard to raise the additional funds needed - Please help us reach our goal.  If you would like to make a donation, please use the link below:
