Dear ,

Say goodbye to rainy spring and say hello to the beautiful summer sun! The season of cookouts, swimming, and outdoor fun is finally upon us! As more and more of us become vaccinated, life is starting to look a bit normal again. The masks are coming off and the restrictions are becoming minimal. Hopefully this is the start to the end of the pandemic!

It’s the first official week of summer—though it has felt like summer in Cleveland for quite some time now... It’s time for pool parties and fun in the sun! Cleveland has a lot to do this time of year: head to Cedar Point, check out Lake Erie, enjoy ice cream from our many famous ice cream parlors, and so much more!

From all of us at Bay Corporation, we are wishing you a wonderful summer filled with happiness and fun.

Concerts Are Back!
As things begin to open back up, Northeast Ohio is seeing some pretty exciting concerts return! Northeast Ohio’s signature amphitheater, Blossom Music Center, reopens on July 31st with a show from James Taylor. In 1979 he was the first artist to play double nights at the amphitheater! If that’s not your cup of tea, Chris Stapleton, Hall & Oates, Thomas Rhett, and the Jonas Brothers are a few more big names you will be able to catch a show from this summer.
Light Up the Lake
Cleveland is celebrating the 4th of July in style with their Light Up the Lake fireworks celebration for the first time since 2019! The event is free and family-friendly, so Clevelanders are encouraged to head downtown and experience the beautiful fireworks display. The best viewing areas in the city are The Flats, Cleveland’s signature nightlife destination, or Edgewater Beach.
Cleveland Burger Week
Burgers are a summer staple for many and Cleveland Burger Week will be kicking off on July 12th and will last through the 18th. Each of the featured restaurants will be preparing their own unique takes on the burger. Those participating can pick up a burger passport to fill out at each location they visit. If they collect at least 5 stamps, they will be entered in a grand prize drawing featuring a Grill and Ultimate Grill Out!
The Return of Fairs
Another return that Ohioans can look forward to is county fairs. Ohio has many fairs, especially in Northeast Ohio. Some notable fairs are Cuyahoga County, Medina County, Lorain County, and Geauga County – the oldest in the state! The fairs will take place between July and September and are a great way for families to spend their summer nights.
Sustainability
Summer is a great time to lessen your carbon footprint. Here are a few ways you can make your summer more sustainable:
  • Eat seasonally & locally (especially those delicious summer fruits & veggies!)
  • Unplug chargers before leaving your house to defeat phantom energy
  • Use a reusable bottle on those hot summer days
  • Take advantage of the warm breeze and dry your laundry outside
  • Close your shades to help block the heat from your home (and give your air conditioner a break)
  • Plant your own garden!
Your Guide to Summer Health
Want to stay healthy and safe despite the summer heat? You should try implementing some of the following tips into your routine.
  1. Exercise in the mornings to avoid the peak of the summer sun. Taking an early morning walk will give you the exercise you need while keeping you from getting too hot.
  2. Maximize your water intake, not just by drinking more water, but by adding more fruits and veggies to your diet. You should also avoid dehydrating foods such as coffee and dairy products.
  3. It is always better to be safe, so keep using sunscreen! An SPF of at least 30 is recommended, even when running errands!
  4. The hottest time of day is between 11 and 2. Take advantage of the early morning and late afternoon to get anything done outside.
  5. Finally, keep cool by wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
