Dear Panther Parents,
I can’t believe this is the last newsletter of the year. As I reflect on this year, I realize how much our students have grown and learned. The two greatest challenges have been social interactions (handling peer conflict appropriately) and apathy for work completion and quality of work. Having said that, the growth in both of these areas has been impressive. Thanks to those who partnered with us to help support the efforts that have gone into coaching and mentoring students through these challenges. I know I say it often, but it is true…It takes a village! I am blessed to walk alongside each of you in our Evans’ village.
For our incoming 6th graders: Meet the Teacher this year will be on August 8th from 9:00-12:00am. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly. You will have the opportunity to walk your child’s schedule, listen to a parent presentation while students are having some fun and learning our building, and then finish the morning with a family picnic. Incoming 7th and 8th graders will have a more traditional Meet the Teacher from 4:00-5:30 on that same day. Please plan to join us!
Laptops: Please remember that your child is responsible for taking care of the laptop that has been provided to them. If you have an outstanding fee, please know that the fee will carry over into next year, so please get those taken care of before the beginning of the next school year. In high school, fees have to be paid before students can take certain classes, go on field trips, and even graduate. Please don’t let these fees accumulate and cause larger issues for you down the road.
PTO: A VERY special thanks to the best PTO around!!! Without this fabulous group of volunteers, our end of the year events would not have been possible. Panther Celebration was a huge hit and the kiddos were AMAZING!! The extra supervision provided from PTO is a large contributor to this success. 8th grade Celebration was also wonderful and again, mirrors this same level of dedication from our PTO parents. I am so grateful for your support and partnership…THANK YOU!
Fundraiser update: Because of the support from our community, we were able to raise enough money to purchase the entry mats that I have been hoping to get for years now. They will look amazing! We also had enough to purchase items for our inside rotations during Panther Celebration which was fun for the kids. Mr. True is making it possible for us to get our new bench for the garden outside the library. One of his hobbies is carpentry and he has made a very generous offer to build us our very own unique bench. Just another testament to our one-of-a-kind Evans’ family. Thank you to all our families who contributed and a special thanks to Mr. True!
STAAR results should be released on Monday. Every student put all their effort into the assessments, and we are very proud of them. For those who did not meet expectations per the state, your child will be required to attend summer school via APEX (online). The school will contact you if your child is affected.
Last, but certainly not least, our 8th graders will be missed. We will forever remember this group for lots of reasons, but the best reason is because they are great humans. We wish you all the best as you move into high school and continue to accomplish many incredible things. Always remember, once a Panther, always a Panther. Now go make us proud (which we know you will do)!!
Have a safe and happy summer,

Hello, Panther Families!

We made it! We have wrapped up another year. Our graduating 8th graders have survived and thrived through a middle school experience like no other. We are so proud of our graduates and look forward to watching them grow and achieve in high school. And soon enough we’ll be welcoming a new class of 6th graders - we can’t wait! Well…maybe we can wait a little. Everyone needs a little summer sun first :)

We’ll be working on schedules this summer, so if you need to make changes to your course requests, submit them here. This form will close June 2nd.

We know that summer break can be stressful for those trying to provide for their families. As a reminder, One Heart McKinney is a community resource with information on those providing meals and other emergency assistance.

Counselors are still on campus for a few more weeks, so please reach out if you have a need.

Cathy DeLisle, counselor A-K,

Dear Panther Families, We believe it takes the entire community to help our students grow into kind and compassionate young adults. Your student(s) receives a weekly CharacterDare on Mondays during Panther Time that is an actionable challenge focused on strengthening one of their “character muscles” like patience, kindness, commitment etc… The program we use, CharacterStrong, also provides Family CharacterDares that are aimed to provide actionable ways families can strengthen relationships, engage in character development activities together and continue conversations around serving others, and showing empathy and kindness for others. There are four categories of Dares:
• Conversation Starters
• Acts of Kindness
• Recreation and Rest
• Expressions of Love

Each week we will send out a Family CharacterDare that we challenge you to do with your students. The staff and administrators in the building will also be engaging in this personal character development as well. We believe in the power of role-modeling this work, and we have no doubt that with this common goal in mind, we are creating a more caring, compassionate, and capable world. You can go to if you would like to learn more about it or contact Cathy DeLisle ( with any questions.
Start With
Try to resolve some resentment or disagreement today by using the opening, “The story I am telling myself is...”

Brenè Brown shares this as a tool for all of us to help focus on our own feelings and actions instead of finger-pointing and blaming. See how much it improves communication and helps you resolve conflict without the other person. For example, “You left in the middle of movie night on Saturday. The story I’m telling myself is that you went to bed early because you didn’t want to spend time with me.”
