Summertime, and the living is easy -- for some of us. Come have fun with SCC at our annual Summer Member Picnic on August 24th.

For some of our fellow -- and former -- Somerville residents, the living is more complicated. Read Eddy Toussaints letter about his inability to find affordable housing in our City despite a comfortable salary. Read also the work that we are doing to provide more opportunities for residents of public housing.

As always, we appreciate your feedback on our work.  And thanks to each of you for all you do for SCC.

Until Next Time,
SCC CEO Daniel LeBlanc

Being Displaced by Greed
SCC member Eddy Toussaint recently shared his story of displacement in a letter to Union United, a coalition committed to development without displacement in the rapidly changing Union Square area - and throughout Somerville.

SCC is one of the founding members of Union United.

Partnership Serves Public Housing Residents
Somerville Community Corporation has partnered with the Somerville Housing Authority to help public housing residents meet education, employment and asset-building goals through an initiative called LEAP (Learning, Employment, Asset-Building Program).

With its small staff, SCC is able to "lift above its weight" thanks to a dedicated, hard working board; member-led initiatives; collaborative projects with partners organizations; and bright, energetic interns. This summer, our Organizing Department has had three interns working on various projects. (photo: Lydia Collins, Tisch Summer Fellow)
