Dear Friends,
This Sunday is the beginning of the season of Advent, a sacred time of longing, preparation, and joyful expectation. Advent simply means “coming”—the coming of Christ into our world, into our lives, and into our future. It invites us to slow down, pay attention, and open our hearts to the God who stepped into human history and who promises to come again in glory.
Advent reminds us that we live between two comings:
· Christ has come—in a manger, in humility, and in love.
· Christ will come again—with power, justice, and restoration.
And right here, in this in-between space, we are people who wait. But our waiting is not empty. It is filled with trust, anticipation, and purpose.
Advent teaches us that even when the world feels dark, God is still at work; even when the waiting feels long, His promises stand firm; and even when life feels uncertain, His Word lights our path.
This first Sunday of Advent centers on HOPE. Not wishful thinking nor shallow optimism, but a deep, steady confidence rooted in the character of God. Christian HOPE is the assurance that God keeps His promises. It is the belief that the light will overcome the darkness, because the Light of the World has already come. It is the confidence that God will finish what He started. It is the certainty that no matter what we face, God is with us, God is for us, and God is working all things together for good.
Advent HOPE lifts our eyes above our circumstances. It reminds us that the story isn’t over. It calls us to live with expectation—believing that God can break into our lives at any moment with grace, guidance, strength, and renewal. So as we light the first candle this Sunday, let it be a reminder: Christ has come. Christ is coming. Christ is here. And because of that, we have HOPE—stubborn, unshakable, radiant HOPE.
May this Advent season renew your heart, strengthen your faith, and fill you with the confident expectation that the God who came near is still coming near today.
Join me this Sunday with an attitude of anticipation expecting God to do what only He can do.
You are Loved!
Pastor Mark
