As we gather to appreciate what we have in our lives this Thanksgiving holiday, it is a good time for us to reflect on the past year and enjoy our time together with family and friends. Being with loved ones is what the holiday season is all about, but it is also the time to serve those who may be less fortunate through acts of kindness such as volunteering at a local charity. This season can be difficult for many, so “giving back” represents a meaningful way of de-stressing.

In the past 12 months, we have seen COVID-19 positivity rates decrease, in no small part due to the dedication of County employees, who have worked to the point of exhaustion to keep everyone safe during this pandemic. It is important to note that, although positivity rates are falling, local medical professionals and other civil servants continue to care for the sick, keep residents safe and face the unknown challenges of a public health crisis. Let's all remember to thank our first responders and frontline workers.

So, as we reflect during this Thanksgiving holiday, we all should appreciate each other and be proud of what we have accomplished together. In fact, every one of you stepped up and put in the extra work and sacrifice necessary to ensure both residents and visitors experienced good health, good times and the quality of life to which we are accustomed.
Thank you for allowing me to lead and be your mayor. You make me proud to live in Orange County, and I am honored and grateful to work with each of you.
I hope you and your family have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
