ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU An older woman proudly told us that as a single parent she raised her three children who are now living independently. The woman works for a delivery service to cover her expenses and was making ends meet until she needed to replace all four tires on her car. As a result of this extra expense, she was unable to pay rent for the current month. This neighbor called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline requesting assistance (206-767-6449 or online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). With your help, she was able to cover rent. Not having to ask for assistance in the past, the woman expressed some embarrassment and apologized about asking for help. We assured her we were happy to offer assistance. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

The ministry's goal is to give children and teens ages 7- 18 with physical, cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities access to the parish community, social events, and faith formation. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Faith Friends program is the Faith Peer program. Faith Peers are teens and young adults who have chosen to live out their discipleship and share some of their personal time in dedication and service to the goals of the program. Adult volunteers are needed for the Adult Leadership team. Consider getting involved! Information, Leticia Escobar, 206-619-0816, faithfriends@stjames-cathedral.org, or www.faithfriendsstjames.org.

CARE FOR CREATION NEWS COP 28, the United Nations’ conference on climate change, convenes in Dubai, November 30 to December 12. Pope Francis, who has made protection of the environment one of the hallmarks of his papacy and met last month with COP 28 President Sultan al-Jaber, will address the Summit next Saturday, December 2. Francis said recently, “Our future is at stake, the future of our children and our grandchildren. A bit of responsibility is needed.” Laudate Deum, his latest statement on care for Creation, was prompted by recent extreme weather events and mentioned the challenges facing COP 28 several times. Failure in Dubai, Francis says in Laudate Deum, "will be a great disappointment and jeopardize whatever good has been achieved thus far.”
