Dear Panther Parents,

Our teachers feel SO blessed and appreciated after the “We Love Our Teachers” community event yesterday. The signs around town are fabulous. We are super thankful for Tiff’s Treats and their generous donation, and a very special thanks goes out to Carey Farmer and Chontae Feldman and the other amazing parents for their tireless efforts to pull off this district-wide event of appreciation. Our hearts are full!!

Our check writing campaign finished strong today. Thank you SO much for your generosity. We will be able to purchase several picnic tables, plus we had a family donate a table…WOW. You guys just keep finding ways to impress me with your continued support of Evans!!

I have encouraged our teachers to completely disconnect from school over the break. If you send an email after dismissal today, you will receive a reply once we are back on campus November 30th. We appreciate your understanding. On the same note, you guys and our students need that same downtime, so I hope you are able to accomplish that.

I hope everyone has a restful, blessed Thanksgiving. Even if we are not able to do all the usual family gathering, we can still be grateful that we have loved ones in our lives. Please be safe and stay healthy, and we look forward to seeing your kiddos back on campus November 30th.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Darla

Hi, Panthers!

We had a great time celebrating colleges and careers this week - ask your student to show you their college Bitmoji classroom or log into Naviance with you and show you some of the colleges they found this week during Panther Time. Naviance is our college and career portal for students and they will use it now and throughout high school to track goals, plan high school courses, learn about careers, explore colleges, scholarships and more. For more information on Naviance or to request a parent log-in, contact Mrs. Spear.

We know the upcoming holidays may be looking very different for many, but we hope you will enjoy a break of relaxation and thanksgiving. This is a great article on some simple and actionable ways to practice gratitude, which has been proven to improve mood and mental health. We are very grateful for your support this year and look forward to finishing out the semester on a strong note!

For assistance with food, One Heart McKinney is an excellent resource. Brookhaven Church is hosting another food distribution this weekend, Saturday November 21st from 9 am to 11 am. They will have USDA food boxes with meat, produce and dairy in addition to dry food. There are also various other community resources available on the site for Thanksgiving food assistance.

With MUCH gratitude,
Patricia and Cathy

Dear Panther Families, We believe it takes the entire community to help our students grow into kind and compassionate young adults. Your student(s) receives a weekly CharacterDare on Mondays during Panther Time that is an actionable challenge focused on strengthening one of their “character muscles” like patience, kindness, commitment etc… The program we use, CharacterStrong, also provides Family CharacterDares that are aimed to provide actionable ways families can strengthen relationships, engage in character development activities together and continue conversations around serving others, and showing empathy and kindness for others. There are four categories of Dares:
• Conversation Starters
• Acts of Kindness
• Recreation and Rest
• Expressions of Love

Each week we will send out a Family CharacterDare that we challenge you to do with your students. The staff and administrators in the building will also be engaging in this personal character development as well. We believe in the power of role-modeling this work, and we have no doubt that with this common goal in mind, we are creating a more caring, compassionate, and capable world. You can go to characterstrong.com if you would like to learn more about it or contact Cathy DeLisle (cdelisle@mckinneyisd.net) with any questions.

SCOLIOSIS SCREENING:
In compliance with Health and Safety Code, Chapter 37, Girls age 12 and Boys age 13, shall undergo screening for abnormal spinal curvature. We will begin these screenings in the Evans Clinic when we return from Thanksgiving break and hopefully complete the process by Dec 11.
12 year old girls are those whose birthdays fall between 05/01/2008 and 04/30/2009.
13 year old boys are those whose birthdays fall between 5/1/2007 and 4/30/2008.
The procedure for screening is very simple. See attached document for details.
Girls will need to wear a halter-top, sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit with pants, shorts, or skirt. Boys will wear their shorts or pants and only remove their shirts.
