Happy Thanksgiving
Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have
done for us. We thank you for the splendor of the whole
creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life,
and for the mystery of love.
We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for
the loving care which surrounds us on every side.
Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and
make him known; and through him, at all times and in all
places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.

A Reflection from Sue Frome | |
For many numbers of years, I have listened to the familiar, yet powerful words of Eucharistic Prayer C in the Book of Common Prayer, from my seat in the pews or as I served as a Eucharistic Minister. But not until I contemplated what you read below, did its meaning come clear (to me).
…Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only and not for strength; for pardon only and not for renewal.”
When asked by our beloved Clergy to offer some thoughts about what this remarkable place we all know as All Saints’ means to me, over 30 years of thoughts and memories came rushing to mind. I will not bore you with the details, but for context, I was not raised in the episcopal faith and my introduction came when our children started at ASEDS in kindergarten some 30 years ago (yes, that makes me chronologically “old” though I don’t feel a day over… maybe 50?!). I quite literally, vividly recall walking into the sanctuary for an all-school chapel in September, a few weeks after our son began as a kindergartner. To see this magnificent church for the first time, full of kindergarten through 8th graders, so respectful of this sacred, yet welcoming space, singing, praying, themselves speaking from the altar, while also hearing the clergy deliver messages of love and tolerance, completely took my breath away. Yes, we were in the right place.
“Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us…”
I thank God for the Day School; because of it, we became members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, all those years ago. Baptisms, Confirmations, Graduations, our daughter’s wedding, my mother’s funeral, Mother Holly providing last rites to my father in Hospice; the cadence of life, the times we celebrate the highest of highs and also the sorrows of the lowest of lows. It was this space that our daughter and her dear friend, in the hours after learning a classmate of 9 years died tragically and suddenly, wanted to go to begin to make sense of this loss and to seek solace and find strength. It was the Church high school youth group that brought a room full of kids, including ours, from different schools together every Tuesday night, to have fun, create community, and to help navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of teenage years.
“Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world around us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table (and may I respectfully add, to this “place”) for solace only and not for strength; for pardon only and not for renewal.”
What makes All Saints’ what it is in my life? The good we honestly seek to do in the community and with and for each other. The music that is profoundly beautiful, sacred, moving, and through which God speaks to me. The energy, compassion and genuine love the clergy and staff bring day in and day out.
As I fast forward to the present, I will honestly share that, as is possible with any meaningful relationship, my faith was profoundly tested and my bond to All Saints’ took a “hit” a few years back. Perhaps some of you reading this can relate in some way or another. Keep the faith. Please come back and try again. You will ALWAYS be welcomed here.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE
WHO HAS COMMITTED
TO SUPPORT OUR
MISSION & MINISTRY.
In 2025, our focus is community and the reasons we all give so generously of ourselves to make All Saints' great. In the upcoming year, we have plans to expand our programs for children and youth, continue to grow our choir, and build on the strength of our outreach ministries that bring hope and peace to those who need it most. Our goal is to raise one million dollars to make this growth possible, and with God's help and your faithfulness, we will get there.

PRISON MINISTRY ANGEL TREE PROJECT!
There are a few tags left!
2024 marks the 10th year that All Saints’ has participated in Angel Tree and it is going to be a big year! This year, our parish will provide Christmas gifts to 80 children who are separated from their parent through incarceration. Many of the children we serve are being raised by a single parent, a grandparent, foster parent or distant relative and the gift we give them serves as an important connection to their incarcerated parent. For the adults caring for the children, our gifts are welcome assistance when resources are limited.
There are 4 ways to support Angel Tree:
1) Purchase a gift for an Angel Tree child ($60-75 maximum).
2) Purchase a $25 Walmart gift card for an Angel Tree family.
3) Bake cookies for our Angel Tree families.
4) Write a check to All Saints’ (write “Angel Tree” in the memo) and the youth group will purchase a gift for an Angel Tree child on your behalf.
Many, many thanks for all you do to make Christmas a joyful time for our Angel Tree families! Contact Lora Villasenor at lmvillasenor@msn.com

BE AN ANGEL TO OUR MARYLAND GARDENS NEIGHBORS
Many of the dear residents next door have little or no local family, and spend the holidays in the confines of the facility.
Please take a tag or two from the Christmas tree in the narthex/lobby and shop for a little extra joy for a neighbor this Christmas! Don't forget to sign your tag out on the sign-out sheet near the tree, and bring back your gift, wrapped and tagged, by December 9th. Want to help but don't want to shop? Email Chesirae Valentine to make a donation.
Again this year, use the tag specifying the resident’s name, gender, and size. We are asking for purchases of a winter sweat shirt & pants combo, or a lounging outfit that is comfy, along with anything specified on their list. Your gifts will put smiles on all the residents' faces.

I am grateful for all of you.
For your comraderie, your kindness, your spirit.
The way we are all connected as community.
Not just on Thanksgiving,
but everyday.
As Lao Tzu says in the Tao de Ching:
Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.
May you have a blessed Thanksgiving!
In very specific terms, may your savory stuffing be delicious,
and your pumpkin pie delectable. My two favorite parts.

Hope to see you here this weekend for
worship, fellowship, and service All Saints' style.
We are so honored to be that meaningful place for your spiritual refreshment, compassion, and kindness.
Any questions or suggestions, let me know.
