Happy February! A new month full of possibilities is ahead, and although the shortest month of the year can be cold and dreary, it announces that warmer weather is on the horizon with Groundhog Day. There are plenty of days to celebrate this month, like National Dark Chocolate Day, National Freedom Date, Superbowl Sunday, President’s Day and we can’t forget about Valentine’s Day. We hope you enjoy this new month to the fullest!

We have completed repairs at the Big Spur entrance, which was severely damaged by an unfortunate automobile accident that collapsed the stone wall and broke the sprinkler lines. Due to the lack of water, the landscaping succumbed to the heat, and everything had to be removed. Once the large deep roots were pulled out, the remaining sprinkler lines and electric lines were further damaged, and they have been completely replaced. Since mid-December, our landscape design is pending approval by the Declarant’s regulated Architectural Control Committee. Work at the Big Spur entrance has come to a standstill until we are able to obtain any recommendation, comment or approval of the proposed landscape design by such entity.

Our pending litigation with the Declarant/Resort had a mediation date scheduled for January, 29,2024. The Plaintiff requested an extension for reasons that we are not aware of and it was granted by the judge. We have a new mediation date scheduled for February, 12, 2024. We will continue to update property owners as information becomes available.

This month the HSBPOA is excited to resume our Community Educational Series on Monday, February 26 at 3:00 PM in the Lake Room at Quail Point with the first of a two-part informative presentation entitled TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN. This astronomical event will take place on April 8, 2024 with better visibility in the Texas Hill Country. This rare and spectacular event will bring quite a large number of visitors to our community. Attendees to this month’s presentation will receive general information on the eclipse and why it is so anticipated. The second part of this Educational Series will take place on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. We hope to see many of our residents attend these presentations.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS AND CRAFTERS! The 3rd Annual Spring Fling Art Festival is on the works for Saturday, March 23, starting at 3:00 PM. The event will feature an Arts and Crafts tradeshow from 3:00 to 6:00 PM followed by live music and dancing with the Natural Causes Band from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. We are thrilled to welcome our local artists and crafters to the event. Participants are expected to display and sell their arts and crafts from 3:00 to 6:00 PM but can stay longer if desired; they will be provided with a five-foot table and two chairs. Participants will be able to sell their masterpieces at the event, and they are responsible for collecting fees. Wall space is not available but personal easels or other displays are acceptable. Space is limited so if you are interested in participating, please contact Karen Calderon-Schweitzer at karen@hsbpoa.org, or click here for the link to the registration form.

We welcome your participation! The HSBPOA February Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21 at 9:00 AM. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call our POA office at 830-598-8795.

A Beacon of Service: Carol Rose honored as Horseshoe Bay's Citizen of the Year

by Whit Holcomb

It is no mystery that Carol Rose recently received the Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance's Citizen of the Year award. She finds true joy in serving; she was an educator for 33 years. Carol continues her work in education, now serving as president of the Highland Lakes Retired Teachers Association and on the grant committee of the Marble Falls Educational Foundation.

Here at the POA, we still appreciate her work on the board of directors. Carol's passion and work in renovating the iconic Lighthouse was instrumental in its restoration, as she served as chair for the Friends of the Lighthouse. This restoration was made possible by a fundraising event at Quail Point Lodge featuring an artist who produced a painting on-site. Carol also chaired the Independence Day celebration during her time at the HSB POA.

Carol is active in the Church of HSB and serves on its Board of Trustees, planning all special events involving church membership. She is also on the city's Historical Preservation Advisory Committee, and active with the Wildflower Dance Troupe, performing at various functions.

When asked about her favorite thing about HSB, Carol replies 'the people. Heart-warming and diverse - we bring so much because of our unique backgrounds.'

Thank you, Carol Rose, for all you have done and continue to do for the HSB community. Your unwavering dedication truly exemplifies the spirit of Horseshoe Bay's Citizen of the Year.
