ASMS ALUMNI COUPLES
We hope you enjoy this Alumni Valentine's Edition of the ASMS weekly newsletter.  After receiving such a great response for the initial article, we decided to do a special Valentine's Day issue all about ASMS sweethearts. Thanks everyone for your submissions!

James ('06) & Ruha 

Tacey ('07)

Ruha and James (Jimmy) started dating in college after a mutual ASMS friend mentioned they had similar interests. While they didn't spend much time together at ASMS, they credit the school for giving them the common friends and experiences which eventually brought them together. They were married in May 2010. Currently, Jimmy and Ruha are both engineers working in the Huntsville area. Ruha is a Chemical Engineer for Ascend Performance Materials and Jimmy is an Electrical Engineer at Premier Systems Integrators in Decatur, Ala. "Teachers at ASMS were a huge influence on our career choices," Ruha says.

Chris Harden ('93) & 

Laurie Davis ('94)

Chris and Laurie shared the same friends at ASMS but didn't realized they were interested in each other until the annual ASMS alumni reunion at Cheaha when Laurie was a freshman at Oglethorpe and Chris as sophomore at Auburn. Chris and Laurie began dating after the reunion and Laurie eventually moved to Auburn. Currently residing in Orlando, Laurie is a Psychiatrist and Chris has started a company called TROBO, The Storytelling Robot: http://mytrobo.com - a talking plush robot that reads iPad stories about STEM to children ages 2 and above. Chris and Laurie recently celebrated their 15th anniversary and have a son Asher, who is 3 years old. Chris and Laurie are life-long friends with ASMS couple Jason and Gina Cole, Class of 1994.

Ralph ('00) & Allison Moore Gatrone ('03)

Ralph and Allison met at an ASMS reunion following their graduation. They began dating in 2008 in Alexandria, Va., and were married in 2010.  Currently, Ralph is a logistics analyst and team manager for DELTA Resources Inc., a defense contractor that works closely with the Navy in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in History. Allison is an editor for Bloomberg BNA, a subsidiary of Bloomberg LP, in Arlington, Va. She covers legislative and regulatory developments in employment law and practices. Allison graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., with a degree in English Literature.  Ralph and Allison live in Fredericksburg, Va., where they are young adult leaders for St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. They enjoy spending their time adding to their ever-growing library, gardening and ballroom dancing. They are currently learning the Irish language.

Patrick ('01) & Rose Marie (Cummings) Hanks ('02)

Rose and Patrick were married in August 2006 and have two children, Amelia (3) and Austin (1). Patrick and Rose first met in Mr. Salz' World History II class at ASMS. Their relationship continued at Auburn University where they both received undergraduate degrees.  After five homes in three states in eight years, Patrick and Rose currently live in New Jersey where Patrick works for ExxonMobil as a research engineer. Rose quit her engineering job after the birth of their daughter and currently is a stay-at-home-mom.

Jason & Gina Carman 

Cole ('94)

Gina and Jason were married in 1999 and have three boys (Xander-11, Riley-8, and Jax-4). They began dating in college, although they did go to Junior Prom together at ASMS. Gina and Jason had several classes together, including Marine Biology and were great friends at ASMS. At an ASMS alumni winter retreat held at Children's Harbor in Alexander City, Gina professed her love to Jason, which led to the two of them dating. Six months later, they returned to Children's Harbor to become engaged. Currently, the Coles live in Arab, Ala. Gina homeschools their sons and works with their local church and the Cub Scouts. Jason works in Guntersville as Director of R&D at Kappler, Inc. Gina shares, "We are excited to share ASMS with our oldest son this summer through the AIMS summer camp."

Patrick & Jordyn Butler ('08)

Patrick and Jordyn began dating in 2006 as sophomores. Even though they had no classes together at the time, Patrick and his roommate, Jason Davis, were friends with Jordyn's roommate, Grace Waldrop (now Grace Jeter).  Jordyn says, "Dating at ASMS was interesting. We liked to play pool together in the old 'SAC' and go on movie runs during the weekends. We ordered a lot of Hungry Howies! Our first class together after we started dating was Anatomy and Physiology with Dr. James. We learned that we should not be lab partners!"  Following ASMS, Patrick and Jordyn attended UAB together. Patrick obtained his B.S. in Computer Science in 2011 and then his M.S. in Computer Science in 2012. Jordyn completed her B.S. in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education in 2011 followed by M.A. Early Childhood Education in 2012. Jordyn and Patrick were married on December 29, 2012 at the Cates House in Birmingham. Currently living in Huntsville, Patrick works with modeling and simulation and Jordyn is a private teacher for a homeschooling family in Madison. They are expecting their 1st child in June 2015.

Mercedez Dunn ('09) &

Jereme' Gallier ('11)

For months, the two walked around ASMS with little interaction, until a random post-finals conversation less than 72 hours before Mercedez's graduation from ASMS. Jereme' was an ambassador and helping students off stage at graduation. A summer romance between the two bloomed as Jereme's junior year approached and Mercedez headed to college. More than 300 miles apart when they began their relationship, Mercedez says, "The love that we shared defied the physical distance that separated us.  Five years, three states, and two continents later, we are more inseparable than ever." Mercedez is a 2013 summa cum laude graduate of Spelman College. She is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology and master of public health student, concentrating in health behavior and health education, at the University of Michigan. She resides in Ann Arbor, Mich. Jereme' is a fourth-year Chemical and Bio Molecular Engineering major at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has also completed an internship with Air Products and Chemicals. He resides in Atlanta, Ga.

Richard ('07) & Kalen Terry Meshell ('08) 

  Richard and Kalen met through ASMS Class of 2008 friend Katie Adams during a walk from ASMS to Winn Dixie.  Through the long, cold walk, Richard and Kalen got know each other and soon after started spending time together and became close. Richard "officially" asked Kalen out on February 15th, 2006 in the Study Garden at ASMS after the Valentine's Day Dance. While at ASMS Richard and Kalen had Spanish with Ms. O'Farrill and Introduction to Circuits with Dr. Wheeler. Richard and Kalen have fond memories from their time at ASMS and Kalen says they "are grateful that we had the opportunity to meet at ASMS 9 years ago."  After ASMS, Richard and Kalen both graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with bachelor's degrees in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering.  Currently they both work at ENERCON, an Engineering Consulting firm in Kennesaw, Georgia.  Richard and Kalen were married in October 2014 and bought their first home in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Mina Momeni ('13) & 

William Wagner ('12)

Will and Mina met as AIMS summer campers on the first night of AIMS and spent the rest of the week getting to know each other. After AIMS they stayed in touch through email and internet chatting every night until the following year when Mina began attending ASMS. While at ASMS, Will and Mina took a few classes together, and had band together.  Currently, Will and Mina both attend UAB. Mina is working towards a career in genetic counseling and Will is studying clinical psychology. 

Hafez & Jaena (Hollingsworth) Alabi ('99)

Jaena and Hafez started dating during their senior year at ASMS in the fall of 1998. They didn't have many classes together, but Jaena was friends with Hafez's roommate. Following graduation from ASMS, Jaena studied English and then Library Science at the University of Alabama and Hafez studied Aerospace Engineering at Auburn and Mechanical Engineering at Alabama. Jaena and Hafez were married in 2010 and are currently living in Auburn with their adorable collie-hound mix named Kaleigh.

Blake ('03) & Quincey ('02) Rhoades

Blake and Quincey began dating in November of 2001 while he was a senior and she was a junior at ASMS. Their first date was dinner at McAllister's followed by a Harry Potter movie. The two were married in November of 2006, and both attended the University of Alabama for undergraduate degrees. Blake and Quincey have two daughters, Emma (4) and Ara (3). Currently, Blake is an Army Captain and completing his Master's Degree at Carnegie Mellon (Information Security Policy and Management).  After his graduation in May from CMU, the family will move to West Point, N.Y., where Blake will be teaching International Relations and Cyber Policy to cadets. Quincey is a middle school teacher and is currently putting her career on hold to raise their girls. She's been an active military spouse and enjoys raising their daughters.  Blake says, "We've moved five times since marrying in 2006, and I deployed twice within our first three years of marriage. We both credit our time at ASMS as helping us to quickly mature and brave the wild ride that the Army adventure has brought us."

Jessica Chapman & Jake 

Harris ('10)

Jessie and Jake met during ASMS Registration Day and talked all summer before attending school in the fall. They started dating September 21, 2008 after becoming best friends. While attending ASMS, Jake and Jessie had a few English classes together and one chemistry class. Both are currently attending Auburn University. Jake will graduate in May with a degree in Software Engineering.  Jessie's graduation will be this December and she will have earned a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in German. 

Jennings & Kelli Wright ('03)

Kelli and Jennings met at ASMS during their junior year. They started dating in January 2002, right after returning from the Christmas holidays. Kelli says, "We began our friendship during the first semester at ASMS, but made it official when we got back to school. Absence makes the heart go fonder, right? I believe his words were the standard, 'Will you go out with me?' I looked at him with a straight face and said, 'Go where?' Needless to say I was joking, and the rest is history!"  Kelli and Jennings were married in July 2007. Jennings majored in Management Information Systems (MIS) in the Culverhouse College of Business and graduated from the University of Alabama in 2007.  In May 2007, Kelli graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in English and Journalism, and completed her a master's degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama in 2014.

After spending the last seven years living in Tuscaloosa, Kelli and Jennings recently relocated to Fairhope, Ala., with their very cute cat, Penny. Currently, Kelli is in her first year of teaching English Language Arts at Foley Middle School in Foley, Ala., and Jennings is a software developer for Insuresoft, LLC. 

Chris ('01) & Daisy Griffin ('00) 

Chris and Daisy became good friends at ASMS although they didn't have any classes together. The strong friendship they developed while at ASMS continued even after Daisy left prior to graduation to attend University of Montevallo through early enrollment. Daisy says, "It took a while for us to realize there could be more, but once it sparked that was it. We were married a week after he graduated and the rest, as they say, is history." Currently, Chris and Daisy live in Auburn, next door to another ASMS couple, Jaena and Hafez Alabi. Chris and Daisy have three daughters: Laura (12), Alli (9), and Charlie (6). Their oldest daughter, Laura, attended AIMS camp for the first time last summer. Chris works as an Application Developer for the City of Auburn and Daisy is a middle-grade author and preschool teacher whose work can be found at www.SamsAnimals.info. 

John Marsella & Brandy Queen ('99)

Brandy and John were friends at ASMS and each dated other people. They had several classes together. Brandy says, "Notably, I has a crush on John in Ancient Greek class. We stayed in touch through college, and when we were visiting each other after I finished grad school, we realized we were kind of perfect for each other."  John and Brandy have been married since 2008. They currently live in Colorado. John will graduate with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Brandy isa licensed professional counselor working at a senior center. They have a home with two dogs, two cats, an aquarium, and a beehive, and plan to get alpacas, sheep, and a pig in the future.

Meredith Jones ('07) &

Josh Stodghill ('07)

MJ and Josh were married in December of 2009 at ASMS, and have three children, Malachi (2-2-2012), Josiah (12-8-2013), and Madison, age 12, adoption finalizing in May. As an incoming junior, MJ met Josh on the first at ASMS in Dr. Bloom's English class.  MJ says, "I took the empty desk next to him, and tried to strike up a conversation with this incredibly good-looking guy.  He blew me off.  So for the next few months I just assumed he was a stuck-up jock!"  However, the two became friends when they would share the six hour ride home during breaks. They began dating January of their freshman year at the University of Mobile. Josh will graduate from medical school at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, this May, and will begin his General Surgery residency in July.  MJ keeps very busy caring for their home and children and currently homeschools their son, Malachi. MJ is also pursuing publication of a personal work of nonfiction, and has recently begun to perform music again, in addition to helping lead worship at their church.
