The ' Mission Nutrition ' team of Leadership Wilkes-Barre is planning a fundraiser to purchase an industrial refrigerator and racking for the VIM facility to store fresh produce including meats, fruits and vegetables. The event is scheduled for  February 27th  at the  The River Street Jazz Cafe  and will feature a live band, food, drinks and raffles. Tickets to the fundraiser, how to donate and any questions about the project can be found on their facebook page or by emailing the Mission Nutrition team at  lwbmissionnutrition@yahoo.com.
Donated Supplies and Wish List
This week the VIM dental clinic received a large quantity of donated supplies from Dr. Loren Grossman's dental practice. The supplies were extremely useful in helping the clinic provide free dental services to low income families. As a nonprofit organization, the clinic can always utilize donated items.

VIM can use a variety of medical & dental supplies and currently the following items:
  • rubber gloves
  • copy paper
  • a variety of different size labels
  • pens and pencils
  • exam table paper
  • anti-bacterial lotion
  • Lysol spray
  • cleaning supplies
  • tissue paper
  • alcohol wipes
Look what students are saying about VIM

I liked doing my rotation at VIM because everyone that works there truly cares and I enjoyed being involved with the different services provided at the clinic.

I would suggest to future students to be open-minded and be willing to change your care plans based on new information and patient preferences.

I enjoyed meeting patients and feeling like we made a difference in their lives .
New Student at VIM

Katie Blankenhorn is a Wilkes University Pharmacy student from Huntington Valley PA. She wants to practice in the ambulatory care setting. She is excited to be involved with the community and interact with patients at VIM.
Adopt A Single Mom Event
April Lennon , Social Care Coordinator, and Serena Kozokas , MSW Intern, recently participated in the Adopt a Single Mom Community Resource Event. This event was held at the Woodlands for working single moms in Luzerne County. Single moms had the opportunity to access, network, and learn about various agencies and employment opportunities in the community so they can work on improving their financial, social and emotional well-being . Many of the single moms at the event showed interest in VIM’s services and stated that they plan on becoming a patient.
VIM Staff Busy with the Healthy Smile Program
Darcie Schaffer, Dental Clinic Manager and our Physician Assistant students presented the "Healthy Smiles for a Healthy Start" Program to children at the   Scribbles & Giggles Daycare, Mt. Top Kids Club, Wyoming Valley West Kindergarten and Little People. The children enjoyed learning about the proper way to brush their teeth, the importance of visiting the dentist and what  foods and drinks are healthy  for them!

On Feb. 11 th , Lynn and Debbie from Nurse-Family Partnership spoke to the staff and volunteers of VIM about the important services they provide to families in Luzerne County. Nurse-Family Partnership is a program through Maternal and Family Health and is free for women who are pregnant with their first baby. A registered nurse provides education, support, advice and information for the woman throughout her pregnancy and also provides early intervention for the child until their 2 nd birthday. Nurse-Family Partnership was founded in 1977 and has supported over 270,000 families in 42 states. Many studies have been conducted from their outcomes and show a 48% reduction in child abuse and neglect and 67% less behavioral issues in children. Their mission is to keep children healthy and safe , while improving the lives of both child and mother. For more info visit their website at https://www.nursefamilypartnership.org/
