Our dedicated volunteer Reading Mentors are caring, dependable adults in the lives of the students we serve. But did you know spending one-to-one time with a child builds healthy brain connections at any age

Check out our guest blog post on Nonprofit Connect to learn more about how positive relationships with adults can change a child’s life — and how Lead to Read KC's diversified programming is supporting our students’ social-emotional learning and getting more books into the hands of young readers.
April is National Volunteer Month. Many thanks to all who make our program possible! We will recognize our Reading Mentors at Get Schooled on June 4. Join us! Read the Get Schooled article below for details.

Are you a Reading Mentor? Be sure to watch for details from your Site Coordinator about the end-of-year reading celebration for your school. We're thrilled that each of the nearly 700 students in our reading mentoring program are being gifted a brand-new book. Many students in our virtual program will get to meet their Reading Mentors in person for the first time at a celebration!
Join us for Get Schooled: Get in the Game on Saturday, June 4, at 5:30 p.m.! We're taking over The North Club at Arrowhead Stadium for an immersive adventure, including tasty cocktails, a sit-down dinner, entertainment and an awesome auction.

Buy your tickets today for the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Arrowhead Stadium the night of the event. (Space is limited. Ticket holders will be the first to be notified when they can book their spot on the tour.) Tickets for this fun, sports-themed event are $125 each. Get into the spirit by wearing your favorite team attire!

There are many ways you can show your "team spirit" and support the children Lead to Read KC serves:

  • Purchase tickets – Buy individual tickets – or host a table of eight or ten!
  • Become a sponsor – Support our classrooms – or encourage your organization to do so!
  • Donate an item – Donate an item for our silent or live auctions, or our raffle.

Many thanks to our generous sponsors!

And, thanks to our emcees, Haley Harrison and Len Jennings of KMBC 9 News

“Literacy is the key for children to unlock a world of possibilities. At KMBC 9 News, we dream of a day in which chronic poverty and crime are no longer issues plaguing our cities. Education is part of the answer. This is why we believe in Lead to Read KC and its mission of giving every child a chance to excel in the classroom and beyond.”
— Haley Harrison and Len Jennings, KMBC 9 News
