It never ceases to amaze me how a smell, sight, sound, or taste can send us to a distant place. I always seem to be more in tune with these senses near the end of summer. It usually begins with the sound of locusts and the instant back-to-school butterflies I get in my stomach. The sight of my last tomato plants, and how much I’ll miss the taste of those fresh summer salads. Just the feel of the air on my skin let’s my mind know the lovely summer is coming to an end. And it usually makes me feel sad, and a little anxious. It is strange and beautiful how the changing seasons can bring up so much emotion.
I love the simplicity of this quote. It’s a nice reminder to be happy wherever you are (in his case, freezing Russia). I actually
the weird sad feelings I get as summer comes to an end. It makes me feel alive and connected with my environment….and happy : )
