Happy Women's Herstory Month!
Happy Women’s Herstory Month from the Women’s Centre of Calgary! This year’s theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.”

Commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8th by celebrating with us! Take a picture or video and tell us about a bias you’d like to break that affects women. Share your content with us on social media by using hashtags #BreaktheBias and #WCCHerstory, or emailing Nicole.

You can support us this month by opting to volunteer, making monetary and personal care item donations, participating in our events, including our celebration of International Women's Day or simply sharing about the Women's Centre online or in your circles.

Personal Care Items

Help us provide personal care items for women in our community. Items like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and feminine hygiene products are often considered luxuries for many women. Drop off Items at the Centre or email us to arrange a pick up.
Become a Monthly Donor

Throughout March, Canada Helps is contributing a $20 donation for every new monthly gift of $20 or more made in support of The Women's Centre through CanadaHelps
Skip the Depot

Get convenient door-to-door bottle pick-up through Skip the Depot!
Sign up for pick-up and choose The Women's Centre of Calgary as your designated charity organization to receive the proceeds.

Did You Know That The Women's Centre is Now a Food Bank Depot?

Women can pick up their Food bank hampers on Mondays or Tuesdays at the Women’s Centre (39 - 4 Street NE). Please call 403-264-1155 or stop by the Centre for details and to make a referral.
Tax Clinics (Mail Filing)

Women’s Centre volunteers can prepare taxes for low-income women. While doing the taxes, volunteers provide information on how to access associated benefits such as:

  1. GST rebate
  2. Canada child tax benefits
  3. provincial child health benefits
  4. assistance with other forms

Diversities Women's Caucus

We are facilitating an online gathering to explore, share, connect and take action on issues that affect us on Wednesday, March 23, 6:00 - 7:30 P.M.

This workshop is open to all who identify as racialized women. For more information and to register, email Nicole or visit our website.
Black Women's Caucus

Join us on Wednesday, March 30 from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. for an online gathering to explore, share, connect and take action on issues that affect Black women.

Women and Poverty
 
Learn about women’s poverty in Calgary and Alberta, and the ways in which poverty shows up at the Women’s Centre and how we address it.

This workshop will be held online via Zoom on Monday, March 14, 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. For more information and to register please visit our website.
Volunteer Opportunities

Workshop Host Volunteers* support the Centre’s learning programs by assisting facilitators with workshop set-up and administration and helping create a welcoming workshop space for attendees. In-person* and online* opportunities are available.

Tax Clinic Volunteers* help women to complete their taxes at the Women’s Centre and sharing other
community resources that women might qualify for.

Benefits Navigator Volunteers* assist women who have completed their taxes at the Centre with finding out what other benefits they may qualify for in the community.

Peer Support Volunteers* support women with resource navigation, completing referrals, and immediate contextual support.

Women's International Day Celebration
Join us to celebrate International Women's Day virtually on Thursday, March 8, 6:00 - 7:15 P.M. We will celebrate the day with poetry, art, trivia online mix and mingle and more! This event is free and open to anyone. Women are welcome to come to the Centre to view the online event on our computer screen. Join us to #BreaktheBias

Girls Lead YYC
Girls Lead YYC is back! All high school girls are welcome to join this FREE leadership program, structured to help girls practice leadership and activism while exploring important issues. Volunteer opportunities are also available to participants, and supplies, meals, and bus tickets will be provided.

Program Information:
  1. Programming Days: Mondays 5 pm – 7 pm from March 7 – March 21
  2. Volunteering Days (Optional): March 11
  3. Blended Programming (Online and In-person)

Taking Charge: Life Skills and Literacy Program (In-Person)
Join us for a new life skills and literacy program for women at the Women’s Centre! Through the Taking Charge Program, women will be able to explore their skills, strengths and goals to handle the challenges of everyday life, and to pursue learning or employment opportunities. Come check out the first session on Monday, March 28 at 5:30pm to learn more!

This program will take place on Mondays 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. for 10 weeks, March 28-June 13 at the Women’s Centre. We will provide refreshments, transit tickets and street parking. We hope to be able to provide childminding, if safe to do so.

This program is open to all who identify as women and will be facilitated by a Women’s Centre volunteer in partnership with CanLearn Society.

MARCH WORKSHOPS SPOTLIGHT
March Workshops

We are excited to be bringing back Creative Women Power to the Women’s Centre! Choose to work on your own creative piece, or join local Eco Artist Andrea Meeredew to start your very own art Journal! All supplies will be provided.
Learn about the history of the Women’s Centre, the peer model, and why we do what we do. This workshop is required for anyone to volunteer at the Women’s Centre.
Join us weekly to learn about the practice of Qi Gong meditation using breathing, visualization, simple body movements and sound to help balance energy. 

This gentle moving meditation is a grounding practice that promotes focus, calmness and peace of mind. This practice is easy to learn and can be done by everyone, at any age and fitness level. It can be practiced standing, seated or even lying down. 

This workshop will be held monthly online via Zoom.
We are making a community crochet piece for the Women’s Centre! Bring a piece that you made at home or join the workshop series to learn how to crochet and contribute your piece!

Pieces should be 4 inches x 4 inches, or 8 inches x 8 inches.
