Happy World Philosophy Day!
The word philosophy comes from the Greek word φιλοσοφία, which means the “love of wisdom.” Today philosophy refers to the academic discipline concerned with the fundamental questions about existence, the nature of knowledge, and ethics. The origins of Western philosophy are in ancient Greece. For those first Greek philosophers, the fundamental question of philosophy was “What does it mean to live a good life?” It is the first question of scientific inquiry, of humanistic learning, and of artistic expression. It is a question that we should all still be asking ourselves today.
On World Philosophy Day, the National Hellenic Museum encourages you to ask yourself, “What does it mean to live a good life?” And share your answer with us on social media!
