HYROX Houston
Instructor and Member SPOTLIGHT
Celebrating Strength, Faith, and Community
Our Fitness Ministry has much to celebrate! Recently, 7 of our fitness instructors and 4 dedicated gym members traveled to Houston to compete in the HYROX competition—an event that hosted 20,000 competitors, making it the largest of its kind in North America.
What an incredible display of endurance, perseverance, and faith! Each participant pushed through physical and mental challenges, demonstrating not only personal discipline but the power of encouragement and community. This was “iron sharpening iron” in action—teammates uplifting one another, cheering each other on, and finishing strong together.
We are especially proud to share that two of our teams earned spots on the Championship podium:
- Amy & Monda – 2nd Place (Women’s Doubles, Ages 50–55)
- Amy & Lorri – 2nd Place (Women’s Doubles, Ages 60–64)
Additional outstanding results include:
- LeeAnn Zaner & Jenna Joubert – 7th place out of 283 (Women’s Doubles, Ages 40–44)
- Derek McCormick & Colin Boylan – 4th place out of 37 (Men’s Doubles, Ages 50–54)
- AJ Johnson & Tommy Williams – 9th place out of 37 (Men’s Doubles, Ages 50–54)
- AJ Johnson – 15th place out of 68 (Men’s Solo Division)
- Christin & Blake Hawthorn – 319th place out of 2,301 (Mixed Doubles, Ages 30–34)
- Derek & Tiffany McCormick – 18th place out of 45 (Mixed Doubles, Ages 50-54)
Every team performed exceptionally well, finishing strong and representing our ministry with excellence. More importantly than results, our team represented FBC Fitness with excellence, integrity, and Christ-centered purpose. Through their actions, attitudes, and encouragement of others, they reflected the love and strength of the Lord Jesus Christ on a national stage.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our gym family for your prayers. We truly felt them—standing at the start line with anticipation in our hearts and throughout the race when our hearts felt like they were beating out of our chests. Your prayers strengthened us, carried us, and reminded us that we were not alone.
We want our gym members to know that your Fitness Ministry is not only committed to spiritual growth but also leads by example in physical stewardship. These men and women are truly the “cream of the crop,” using their gifts and discipline to glorify God and inspire others.
To God be the glory for what He is doing through this ministry—strengthening bodies, building relationships, and reaching people through fitness and faith.
