Best Wishes for a Joyful Winter Break

Dear District 65 Community,

As we prepare to head out on winter break, I wanted to take this moment to say thank you for your partnership this fall. This school year we’ve had many conversations about budget reductions, but it’s necessary that we also uplift and celebrate all the amazing learning happening in our schools!

This fall I accompanied the Academics team on their Learning Walks, which provide a time for seeing our educators and support staff in action in support of students. These visits focus on three components of our instructional framework: (1) students having access to grade-level learning and the scaffolds to succeed with it, (2) educators having an authentic belief in student’s potential, which is communicated to them and supports a productive mindset, and (3) students taking on the “cognitive lift” in classrooms. (If you want to learn more, view this School Board presentation.)

In every District 65 school we see evidence that our students are growing. In every District 65 school we see school leaders and staff embrace a school-based staffing model that supports the needs of students. And above all, in every District 65 school we see a true commitment to joyful learning that puts students at the center.

As we look ahead to 2026, I am grateful for the diligent work of our staff and excited to see us keep striving for better outcomes for kids. We look forward to seeing students back on January 6, 2026.

I hope that winter break is a relaxing, restorative time for you and your loved ones. Best wishes and happy holidays!
