TO A GOOD WEEK!
TODAY is the first day of the new Hebrew month of SIVAN
ROSH CHODESH SIVAN
| |
The Jewish holiday of SHAVUOT occurs this week, beginning on Thursday, May 25 and ending Saturday evening, May 27. It is called the “Feast of Weeks”, since it is celebrated seven weeks after Passover. The counting of this time period begins on the second evening of Passover, with Shavuot taking place exactly 50 days after the (first) seder. Following the Greek word for “fifty,” Shavuot is also sometimes referred to as Pentecost. Although its origins are to be found in an ancient grain harvest festival, Shavuot has long been identified with the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people.
Since Shavuot is an ancient pilgrimage holiday, many of its ritual focuses on the community. One of the rituals for this holiday is the eating of dairy products, such as cheese and milk products.

FROM Rabbi Barry Silver & "FRIENDS OF THE EVERGLADES" organization:
The worst environmental bill approved by the Florida Legislature in 2023 has just been transmitted (CLICK HERE to view the bill) to Gov. DeSantis’ desk. We need your help convincing him to VETO IT! If signed into law, SB 540 would pose serious threats to the Everglades. This is bad for the future of Florida, bad for the Everglades, and bad for water and wildlife.
Ask Gov. DeSantis to VETO SB 540.
