Happy summer from CAVC!

Dear Emmanuel,

Summer is in full effect! The days are longer and Ventura County is warmer. We hope you are doing all you can to stay cool and hydrated. As Ventura County shares information about cooling centers, we will keep you posted.

We also wanted to remind you that our Executive Director, Susy Lopez-Garcia, is officially on maternity as of July 10th. We wish her and her family all the best as she welcomes her second child!

We also want to congratulate our longtime Board member, Anson Mar, whose photo you see above and who will become the Chair of the Board of Directors starting in August. We congratulate outgoing Chair, Vincent Stewart, on his longtime service and leadership. Our Board of Directors are in great hands!

In this newsletter, you'll learn more about our recent Community Action Plan, as well as learn how we're headed to training camp with the Dallas Cowboys and get to know more about our CAVC staff. Happy summer!

The Community Action Plan draft is ready for you to view!

This plan, which we produce every two years, will guide our decision making and the work we do to make Ventura County better for everyone. We invite you to read through the drafted plan and learn more about what Ventura County families need and how we plan to help. We need the support of community members like you to advance our mission to eradicate poverty across Ventura County.

We're headed to Dallas Cowboys training camp!

We're taking the field with America's Team this summer!

When you head out to Oxnard to take in Training Camp starting next week, look out for our ads in the programs! This is one of our largest advertising runs in recent memory, and we're so excited to reach a larger audience than we've done before.

Save the date for our next Mobile Clinic!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 21!

We will be hosting a no-cost mobile clinic at our Oxnard headquarters for vision and dental care for community members in need. This clinic is being organized alongside Healing California and the United Way of Ventura County. More information about this clinic will be coming soon, so stay tuned to our website and our newsletter for more.

We are grateful to these two wonderful organizations for their partnership as we bring much needed care to Ventura County's most vulnerable residents.

CAVC Staff in Action this summer!

Check out our CAVC staff in action this summer!

The summer months are the perfect time for a bit of relaxation and exploration. Many of our staff members take time to travel and get out there on much-needed vacations, and we asked them to bring us with them!

Here's our wonderful Energy Services Manager Fanni checking in from the Space Needle in Seattle!

Much like The Acorn newspapers asking its readers to share photos of the front pages on vacation, look out for CAVC staff members bringing CAVC swag or attire with them on vacation in our upcoming newsletters!

Staff Spotlight: Patrocinia Bocajol

This month's Staff Spotlight introduces you to Patrocinia Bocajol, our dedicated Food Program Assistant. Her role is crucial as our Food Program has grown significantly since the beginning of the pandemic as the program has expanded significantly since 2020. Patrocinia closely collaborates with our Food Program Coordinator to ensure that we meet the needs of over 400 households that depend on the food we distribute each week.

Patrocinia's fluency in Spanish and Kaqchiquel, an Indigenous language from Guatemala, makes her a valuable asset to our team.

She volunteered for more than five years before becoming a support staff member in 2021, when we restructured our budget to keep Patrocinia and other key staff members on the team to address the growing food insecurity we saw. Patrocinia is also an excellent team player and helps the agency during special events, such as our diaper distribution or 40th Anniversary celebration.

Patrocinia finds her job fulfilling in that she gets to assist the community and identify the specific requirements of households that visit our pantry. Once she is aware of their needs, it becomes simpler for her to select the essential items from Food Share. Outside of work, organizing her home and taking inventory is her favorite pastime. This is particularly helpful for her when she is feeling low. She also takes pleasure in gardening; she even transformed an empty plot behind our warehouse into a beautiful garden filled with flowers and vegetables!

If you are ever in our Community Market line, you'll see Patrocinia hard at work. We appreciate her so much!
