On a Values-Based PEP
Riverbat Faculty and Staff,
As an HR Manager years back, an employee named Sarah came to me during annual evaluation season upset by feedback from her supervisor to "smile more" on her annual evaluation. Despite her strong overall performance and recognition for her accomplishments, this feedback left her feeling deflated and confused.
After further discussion, it became clear that her supervisor saw potential for Sarah in a more customer-facing role and wanted to encourage her to foster a more welcoming environment. To address this, the supervisor amended the feedback, highlighting the importance of creating a friendly and approachable atmosphere for effective communication and career growth. They also reviewed anonymized customer feedback together to brainstorm ways to enhance the customer experience.
As we gear up for PEP season in two weeks, it's time to start considering how you can integrate best practices to ensure optimal outcomes, while aligning with our Values and driving toward our North Star goal.
