From the VC:

A Student-Centered Environment Depends on a Mission-Aligned Staff

Colleagues,

Earlier this week, staff and administrators received an invitation to participate in a survey supporting the discovery phase of ACC’s Compensation & Classification Study. Staff feedback will help shape a more equitable, transparent, and student-centered environment -- one where each role is clearly defined, fairly compensated, and aligned with ACC’s future. Our mission to provide a student-centered experience depends on a mission-aligned staff. By taking part in this survey, you’ll directly influence how ACC values, supports, and invests in its people, advancing our commitment to long-term goals like ACC’s “North Star” objective to reach a 70% student completion rate by 2030.

Why This Study Is Needed Now

This study arrives at a critical time for ACC. Many requests for job reviews and salary adjustments have been on hold pending this comprehensive review, which allows us to address key issues systematically rather than piecemeal.

Read more to learn about the goals we've set out for the study and how they may impact you.

Sarah Lisenbe

Director, Student Affairs Strategic Projects & Operations Student Affairs

Sarah Lisenbe's work is as big and important as her title is long. She's involved in many collegewide initiatives -- including the Student Accessibility Services project, free tuition, and Bats to Cats -- always making sure the voices of Student Affairs are heard.

HR VC Kelly Torrico sat down with Sarah to talk about what makes a good leader -- important information for those of us who are already in supervisory positions and those of us who strive to be.

YOU ASKED!

I just completed my compliance training a couple of months ago. Do I have to take the courses again?

Yes. But here's the good news. You can wait eight months if you want!

We told you about the changes to our Compliance Training program in an email last week. The changes are designed to:

  • Update critical information contained in the courses
  • Consolidate two courses so the total required is now four
  • Put all ACC employees on the same calendar cycle

Unfortunately, that means some of you won't have a full year in between taking the courses.

BUT, the requirements for FY25 don't need to be met until August 1, 2025. And we'll begin sending reminders long before that. This will give you plenty time to complete the requirements before the Performance Excellent Program kicks off in late spring.

NOTE: All of the old courses are now inactive. If you receive a notice that says you're overdue for completion, please disregard it. The notices refer to the old schedule. To make sure the software is working optimally, please use Google Chrome as your browser and turn off pop-up blockers.

Here's a video to help you locate and navigate the courses for FY25. Contact us if you have questions!

ON THE ROAD

ACC's South Austin campus may be small, but it's mighty. Everyone we talked to during our recent visit expressed Joy 🥰 about their jobs there.

Special thanks to Charlene Buckley, Kristine Elderkin, and Casey Martinez from the ACC Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance for coming out to help us understand how ACC handles discrimination, harassment, and workplace concerns. This is important information that protects all of us at ACC.

We had a great turnout both in-person and online for Ask Me Anything. We'll post a recording of the information-packed session on our On the Road webpage soon, and you can look for some really good questions that came from it to appear in upcoming HappyHR newsletters.

Ask Me Anything sessions are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at each of the campuses HR visits. You can join us in person or virtually, no matter which campus you call home. Find the schedule on our On The Road page, and watch for invitations before each visit.

SAC head librarian Toyya Cisneros reminds us that ACC libraries offer services far beyond loaning books and studying. Ask them anything!
