New Features on the Pumpout Nav App

Pumpout Nav helps boaters locate more than 280 publicly available pumpouts, mobile pumpout vessels and portable toilet dump stations in Florida. The app provides each facility’s cost, hours and detailed location within the marina. Now it offers even more new features aimed at supporting boaters in properly disposing of waste and safeguarding coastal waters.



The app introduces a newly refreshed "Learn" section tailored specifically to Florida boaters. Boasting engaging content and new informative videos, boaters can deepen their understanding of sewage disposal regulations and best practices. A video demonstrates the protocols followed by Clean Boating Program staff during annual marina site visits to check pumpout equipment functionality. Another video offers insights into crucial aspects boat sewage laws explained by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Public Information Officer Chad Weber.

Pumpout Nav is available for download on both iOS and Android devices.

Share the app with your boaters! We've made it easy with our social media toolkit, with graphics and text designed specifically for Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). We also have flyers and stickers available. To receive hard copies, just reply to this email with your mailing address and desired quantity.

Vero Beach to Fort Pierce Aquatic Preserve Designated as No Discharge Zone

The Environmental Protection Agency approved a No-Discharge Zone (NDZ) for the Indian River Lagoon Vero Beach to Fort Pierce Aquatic Preserve. This is the fourth NDZ designation in the state and the first of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) aquatic preserves to receive this status. 

In a NDZ, it is illegal for boaters to discharge any sewage, even if treated. Within NDZ boundaries, vessel operators must retain their sewage onboard for discharge at sea or on land. Untreated sewage may only be released beyond three miles from shore in the Atlantic, or nine miles offshore if boating in the Gulf off Florida or Texas. Sewage can be offloaded onshore at a pumpout facility.

Clean Vessel Act Needs Assessment

Providing the boating community with the knowledge and infrastructure they need to properly dispose of sewage waste is the primary goal of the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) program. To ensure limited CVA funding is utilized in the areas where there’s the greatest need, Florida Sea Grant has conducted a comprehensive CVA Resource and Needs Assessment (RNA).
