Residents are encouraged to stay involved throughout the budget process. If you were unable to attend the workshop, you can watch the meeting livestream to hear the discussion and learn more about how your tax dollars are being planned and allocated.
| | Representing Our Beachside Communities | | |
Indian Harbour Beach Councilmember Susan Ruimy and City Manager John W. Coffey recently attended the Florida League of Cities Annual Conference in Hollywood, Florida, alongside Satellite Beach City Manager Brittany Retherford and Mayor Steve Osmer.
The conference provided an opportunity to connect with municipal leaders from across Florida, learn from industry experts, exchange ideas, and discuss strategies for the future of our cities. We’re proud to have our local leaders representing our beachside communities and bringing valuable knowledge and ideas back home!

| | | Yuma Sidewalk Widening Project | | | | |
This will be our final Yuma Sidewalk Project update because the project is officially complete! Just in time for back-to-school, the expanded sidewalks make it much easier for bicyclists to pass one another safely. The City has also received positive feedback from residents about the improvements.
Funded through transportation impact fees, this project helps create a safer, more accessible route for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling to and from school, jogging, or taking walks with their furry friends. We are excited to see our community already enjoying the new and improved sidewalks!
| | Algonquin Sports Complex Expansion | | |

Additional progress includes:
- Ball courts have been measured and marked for posts and poles
- Fill material placement and grading of common areas continues
- Installation of parking lot lights has begun
- The sewer line area has been backfilled with a temporary patch in place while awaiting final inspection
We’re excited to see the continued progress and look forward to sharing more updates as work moves forward!

Last week, the Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Wednesday evening approximately 5:20 p.m. The Fire Department was operating at a volunteer status at the time. The fire involved a heavy fire load, and both homeowners sustained injuries. One homeowner was transported for medical treatment, while the other sustained minor injuries and was not transported.
IHBFD worked alongside Brevard County Fire Rescue, Satellite Beach Fire Department, and Melbourne Fire Department to bring the fire under control.
There were no issues with the fire hydrant or the City’s municipal water supply. The first unit on scene from Brevard County was a ladder truck carrying approximately 300 to 400 gallons of water. Fire hoses can flow 125 to 150 gallons per minute, which means the water carried on a truck can be used very quickly when actively fighting a structure fire.
IHBFD Engine 56 arrived on scene, and our crew established a continuous water supply from the hydrant, allowing firefighting operations to continue. Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of training, teamwork, and strong mutual aid partnerships with our neighboring departments.
The State Fire Marshal investigated the fire. While a clear cause could not be determined, the fire is currently being ruled unintentional.
We are proud of our IHBFD firefighters and grateful to our neighboring agencies for working together to protect our residents and community.
