City Project Updates

Algonquin Sports Complex

New split rail fencing is being installed along the Algonquin Sports Complex drainage canal, adding both safety and a finished look to the expanding park.

Public Works crew members John Tuppeny and Matt Godden have been hard at work over the past several weeks completing the installation.

Yuma Sidewalk Widening Project

The final phase of the Yuma Drive Sidewalk Project is now underway. Construction crews began site preparation this week, including removing landscaping at 395 Yuma Drive to accommodate the sidewalk widening.

Before work began, the homeowner generously donated a 15-foot palm tree that would have otherwise been removed. Public Works crew members Pete Tridnivka and Richard Day, along with Grounds Supervisor Quincy Smith and Public Works Director Todd Scaldo, successfully relocated and replanted the tree at Gleason Park, where it will continue to be enjoyed by the community.

Millennium Pavilion Progress

The new pavilion at Millennium Beach Park made great progress this week! Construction is moving along nicely, and we can't wait to welcome residents and visitors to another shady spot to relax, gather, and enjoy a beautiful day just steps from the beach. Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues.

This week, detectives investigated two separate fraud cases in which residents were tricked into sending money to scammers, including one victim who was convinced to send payment using Bitcoin.

Remember, legitimate businesses and law enforcement will never request payment through Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. If you receive a suspicious call, don't feel pressured to act. Hang up and contact the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department before sharing any personal or financial information. We're happy to help verify whether a caller is legitimate.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department at 321-773-3030 or email Chief Butler at dbutler@indianharbourbeach.gov.

During Tuesday night's City Council meeting, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department proudly swore in its two newest police officers, Officer Harris and Officer Bailly.

While both officers come to Indian Harbour Beach with previous law enforcement experience, they are currently completing the department's field training program, where they are learning what it means to serve the community the "Harbour Way."

That means going above and beyond every day, building relationships, providing exceptional customer service, and treating every resident, business owner, and visitor with professionalism, compassion, and respect.

Fire Department News

Volunteer Force

  • 2024: 23 volunteers (9 certified firefighters)
  • 2026: 35 volunteers (16 certified firefighters)

Average Response Times

  • 2024: 8 minutes, 22 seconds
  • 2025: 6 minutes, 59 seconds
  • 2026: 5 minutes, 27 seconds

Since 2024, the Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department has increased its volunteer force by more than 50% while reducing average response times by approximately 35%, from 8 minutes, 22 seconds to 5 minutes, 27 seconds. The improvement is largely due to more volunteers and part-time paid staff being at the station and ready to respond immediately. As the department transitions to a hybrid staffing model, these investments are already improving emergency response and service to the community.

A Historic Milestone for the Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department

History was made as Firefighter McNulty and Firefighter Coleman were officially sworn in and pinned as the first full-time firefighters in the City of Indian Harbour Beach's history.

As the department transitions from an all-volunteer agency to a hybrid staffing model, this milestone represents a significant investment in the future of emergency services while continuing to honor the proud legacy of our volunteers.

Congratulations to Firefighter McNulty and Firefighter Coleman on this historic achievement, and thank you for your dedication to serving the Indian Harbour Beach community.
