Mayor Recognized for 20 Years of Service

During last week’s City Council meeting, Mayor Scott Nickle was recognized by the Florida League of Cities for 20 years of dedicated service and commitment to the residents of Indian Harbour Beach.

For two decades, Mayor Scott Nickle has served our community and helped guide Indian Harbour Beach through years of growth and change.

We are grateful for Mayor Scott Nickle’s continued dedication to our City and all he has done for our residents throughout the years.

Hayes Family Donates Photo for Council Chambers

During last week’s City Council meeting, the Hayes family donated a special photograph of LTC Norman and Marilyn Hayes to be displayed in the Council Chambers that proudly bears their names.

Mayor Scott Nickle shared remarks reflecting on Norman and Marilyn’s lasting contributions to Indian Harbour Beach and their deep commitment to serving others. Two of their sons also spoke about their parents, sharing personal memories and reflecting on the love they had for their family, community and City.

The photograph was then unveiled, with Councilmember David Nutt joining the Hayes family for photos as an honorary sibling.

Norman and Marilyn Hayes left a lasting mark on Indian Harbour Beach through their service, involvement and genuine care for their neighbors. Their photograph will serve as a meaningful reminder that their legacy of community, service and love continues to be an important part of our City’s story.

Staff Gets in the School Spirit

College football kicked off last weekend, and on Friday, City of Indian Harbour Beach staff got into the spirit by representing their favorite teams! Staff broke out their school colors, shirts, hats, and plenty of friendly team rivalries to celebrate the start of the season. For those who enjoy college football, we hope you have a fun season cheering on your favorite team!

City Project Updates

Fresh Sod at Crespino Field

Crespino Field is getting a fresh new look! Crews recently installed new sod to provide an improved playing surface for the teams and athletes who use the field throughout the year. While the field may look ready for action, it will remain closed until further notice to allow the new sod time to properly take root. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation in staying off the field while the sod becomes established and look forward to welcoming everyone back once it’s ready for play!

End of an Era

Public Works Director Todd Scaldo captured a piece of Space Coast history this week with this photo of a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch taken from the Indian Harbour Beach Public Works Compound. The mission marked the final planned dedicated Falcon 9 Starlink launch from Florida, closing a chapter that included roughly 260 Starlink missions from the Cape over the past seven years.

While Falcon 9 will continue flying other missions from the Space Coast, future Florida Starlink launches are expected to transition to Starship. It was a pretty incredible view from the office and another reminder of one of the unique perks of calling the Space Coast home.

Police Department News

For the week, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department responded to 397 calls for service, including:

• 30 traffic enforcement details

• 55 traffic stops

• 10 medical-related calls

• 3 traffic crashes

• 1 DUI arrest

Traffic Safety Reminder: Construction on South Patrick Drive is part of a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project, which means the City has limited control over the current traffic patterns and detours.

IHBPD continues to work closely with the project team to address traffic and safety concerns raised by our community, particularly near South Patrick Drive and Banana River Drive. Residents can expect an increased law enforcement presence in the area as officers work to improve traffic safety and minimize disruptions.

This phase of construction is expected to last approximately four weeks. We appreciate everyone's continued patience as this work progresses.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department at 321-773-3030 or email Chief Butler at dbutler@indianharbourbeach.gov

Fire Department News

Last week, several members of the Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department participated in a nationally credentialed joint water rescue training course presented by Rescue 3 and the SAR TAC Group. IHBFD trained alongside first responders from Brevard County, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Melbourne Beach, Titusville, and Brevard County Ocean Rescue.

Joint training opportunities like this help our firefighters strengthen their water rescue skills while gaining valuable experience working with the agencies they may respond alongside during an emergency. We’re proud of our IHBFD members for continuing to expand their training and skills to better serve our community!
