IHB represented at State of the Cities

Tuesday morning, City Manager John W. Coffey, ICMA-CM, joined seven other city managers from across Brevard County for the State of the Cities, hosted by Accelerate Brevard.

The panel brought together local leaders for a great discussion about the future of Brevard County’s cities and the challenges and opportunities facing local governments. Topics included the potential impacts of Amendment 3, infrastructure needs, stormwater management, and planning for the future of our communities.

It was a great opportunity for Indian Harbour Beach to be part of the regional conversation and to hear perspectives from fellow city leaders throughout Brevard County.

National Night Out Postponed Due to Weather

Due to forecasted weather conditions and after consulting with our first responder partners, the City made the decision to postpone National Night Out to Tuesday, October 13, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Gleason Park.

Everything you were looking forward to is still on the agenda, including family-friendly activities, first responder demonstrations, games, food, our famous pie-eating contest, and plenty of opportunities to connect with the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department and community partners.

And don’t forget! We’ll still be collecting school supply donations for Ocean Breeze Elementary, so bring your donations along.

New date. Same time. Same place. Same amazing National Night Out!

We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and can’t wait to see you on Tuesday!

City Clerk Gold Reaches Professional Milestone

Congratulations to City Clerk Nikki Gold on reaching an exciting professional milestone!

This week, City Clerk Gold and her fellow classmates were recognized for completing the third-year educational component toward earning the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation.

With this educational milestone complete, City Clerk Gold’s next step is to apply for and earn the official CMC designation. The achievement reflects her continued commitment to professional development, municipal government, and serving the Indian Harbour Beach community.

We’re proud to celebrate this accomplishment and look forward to hopefully adding CMC after City Clerk Gold’s name very soon.

Helpers Parade at Ocean Breeze Elementary

Last week, City staff, local first responders, and Councilmember Susan Ruimy helped bring some extra excitement to the school day during the annual Indian Harbour Beach Community Helpers Parade at Ocean Breeze Elementary!

City employees lined up at Gleason Park before making their way through the school’s car loop in City and personal vehicles. Kindergarten and first-grade students gathered along the fence to wave, cheer, and get an up-close look at some of the community helpers who serve Indian Harbour Beach every day.

The parade made two trips around the school, giving students plenty of opportunities to wave hello and see some familiar faces from around the City.

We always enjoy opportunities like this to connect with our youngest residents and show them just how many people work together to help keep their community running. A big thank you to Ocean Breeze Elementary for having us!

Public Works At Work

 Beach Cleanup

A large, heavy fishing net washed ashore just north of Serena Shores Condominium, creating concerns for both people and wildlife. With the potential for entanglement and other hazards, crews got to work removing the netting from the shoreline.

And when we say it was heavy, we mean it! Getting the net off the beach took some serious teamwork and muscle from our Public Works crew.

It certainly wasn’t your average Monday morning beach cleanup! A big thank you to our team for tackling the unexpected and helping keep our shoreline clean and safe for residents, visitors, and wildlife alike.

Fire Department News

Charge Safely. Prevent Fires.

October is Fire Prevention Month, and the Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department is reminding residents that fire prevention includes something most of us do every day: charging our devices safely.

Phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, e-bikes, scooters, and many other devices use lithium-ion batteries. Keep these simple safety tips in mind:

  • Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
  • Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, not on a bed or couch.
  • Disconnect devices once they are fully charged.
  • Never charge e-bikes, scooters, or other large battery-powered devices where they could block an exit.
  • Stop using a device if the battery becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.

Charge smart and help keep your home and family safe.

Watch for more safety tips from IHBFD throughout Fire Prevention Month!

Building Department Updates

Another busy week is in the books for the Indian Harbour Beach Building Department! From new applications coming in to inspections taking place across the City, the team continues to keep projects moving through the process.

This week’s activity included:

  • 12 building applications
  • 33 building inspections
  • 4 fire inspections
  • 4 private provider inspections

Whether a project is just getting started or nearing completion, our Building Department works behind the scenes to help make sure construction throughout Indian Harbour Beach meets required standards and moves safely through each step of the process.
