Last Friday marked 25 years since September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation.

As a community, we paused to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93, while honoring the first responders who ran toward danger and the families who endured unimaginable loss.

We also remember that the impact of September 11 extended far beyond that day. In the years that followed, millions of American service members answered the call to serve, alongside civilian federal employees and contractors. Thousands gave their lives, tens of thousands were wounded and countless individuals and families continue to carry the lasting effects of that service and sacrifice.



Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost, honor those who served and remain grateful for all who sacrificed.

On Friday evening, community members gathered at the Gleason Park Recreation Center for a special ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Personal experiences were shared, individuals were honored and our community came together to remember the lives lost, recognize those who answered the call to serve and reflect on the lasting impact of that day.

The Indian Harbour Beach Police Department hosted its annual Shred Fest and Electronic Take Back on Saturday, and this year was our biggest one yet! Thanks to an incredible turnout from our community, approximately 8,000 pounds of documents were securely shredded.

Community members safely disposed of sensitive documents to help protect themselves from identity theft while also responsibly recycling unwanted electronics.

A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Indialantic for sponsoring the event and for their continued support of our community. We also want to thank our Police Department staff and volunteers who helped make the event such a success!

Milling and Paving Begins on City Roads

Road milling is underway as part of roadway improvements throughout the City. Work is taking place in the following order:

1. Navajo Circle
2. Algonquin Terrace
3. Ponkapoag Way
4. Anona Place
5. Park Drive
6. Central Road

Residents along these streets are asked to avoid parking vehicles on the roadway while work is taking place and to use extra caution around large trucks and heavy equipment. Milled material will temporarily be stored in the Metz Field parking lot area for approximately one week before being removed. Paving will follow once milling is complete, weather permitting.

For the week, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department responded to 416 calls for service, including:

• 47 traffic enforcement details
• 74 traffic stops
• 5 medical-related calls
• 4 traffic crashes
• 3 DUI arrests

Department Training: EVOC Instructor Course

Sergeant Eric Thompson and Detective Enith Clermont successfully completed the 40-hour Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor Course, qualifying them to provide EVOC training to department personnel.



Given the extended hours and demanding conditions under which officers operate police vehicles, continued emergency vehicle training is essential to promoting officer and public safety. Having certified in-house EVOC instructors will allow IHBPD to provide this important training locally while reducing the cost and logistical burden of sending officers outside the area for instruction.

Our Indian Harbour Beach firefighters remain ready to respond whenever our community needs them. During the month of July, the Fire Department responded to a variety of calls for service, including:

• 2 fires
• 19 rescue calls
• 7 hazardous condition calls
• 5 service calls
• 2 good intent calls
• 58 emergency medical service calls
• 15 alarm calls
