Happy Labor Day!

The City of Indian Harbour Beach wishes everyone a happy and safe Labor Day!

Have a safe, restful and enjoyable Labor Day!

South Patrick Construction Update

Following the completion of an FDOT traffic study, a dedicated left-turn signal at South Patrick Drive and Banana River Drive was scheduled to be implemented beginning Friday. The project team will continue to monitor the new traffic pattern and make adjustments if needed.

Work also continues on approximately 600 feet of new piping in the area, with about 260 feet completed as of our latest update. Once the piping work is finished, the intersection will reopen. Approximately four to six weeks of work remain, with the project team optimistic this phase could be completed by the end of September or first week of October.

We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and will continue to share updates as we receive them from FDOT.

City Project Updates

Restrooms installed at Algonquin Sports Complex

Another exciting piece of the Algonquin Sports Complex Expansion is in place! This week, the new restroom facility was installed at the complex, marking another visible step toward completion.

Want to see it come together? We sped up the installation into a video just under a minute long! Click the YouTube video below to watch the new restroom facility being installed from start to finish.

Work continues throughout the site as we get closer to welcoming the community to the expanded sports complex. Stay tuned for more progress updates!

Recreation Director Attends FRPA Conference

Recreation Director Kristin Cusimano recently attended the Florida Recreation and Park Association (FRPA) Annual Conference, joining parks and recreation professionals from across the state for several days of professional development, educational sessions and networking.

The conference provides opportunities to learn about new ideas, programs and best practices in areas including recreation programming, athletics, park maintenance and administration. Kristin looks forward to bringing what she learned back to Indian Harbour Beach as we continue working to provide quality parks, programs and recreational opportunities for our community.

Police Department News

For the week, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department responded to 449 calls for service, including:

• 40 traffic enforcement details

• 105 traffic stops

• 6 medical-related calls

• 4 traffic crashes

License Plate Reader Update: This week, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) rescinded permits allowing License Plate Readers (LPRs) to be installed within FDOT rights-of-way.

The City had three LPRs located along main thoroughfares, two of which were installed within FDOT rights-of-way. In response to FDOT’s decision, as well as concerns expressed by members of our community regarding the use of LPRs, all three have been removed and officers’ access to LPR data has been discontinued.

We sincerely thank our community for sharing your concerns and providing valuable input. Your engagement and involvement are important as we continue working together to keep Indian Harbour Beach a great place to live, work and visit.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department at 321-773-3030 or email Chief Butler at dbutler@indianharbourbeach.gov

Fire Department News

The Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department responded to a slightly different kind of call on August 30 when a baby squirrel was reported trapped in a tree with possible injuries.

Engine 56 crew members deployed a ladder and successfully rescued the tiny patient. A community member then stepped in to transport the squirrel to Florida Wildlife Hospital for further evaluation and care. At the time of the rescue, the squirrel was believed to be in stable condition.

Great work by E56 and a special thank you to the resident who helped make sure this little one received the care it needed!

The Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department recently put several new hose types to the test as part of the process of evaluating a much-needed equipment upgrade.

Testing equipment firsthand helps our firefighters determine which options best meet the department’s operational needs and will serve our crews and community well into the future.

Building Department Updates

It was another busy week for the Indian Harbour Beach Building Department! This week, the team handled:

• 16 building permits

• 27 building inspections
