Elmsford, NY Jan 21, 2014 -- Hardball NY is collecting donated baseball equipment, on behalf of the Baseball United Foundation. Donated equipment will be shipped to youth and amateur baseball programs in Ireland and other European countries.
"We are very excited to do our part to help grow the game of baseball in Ireland and elsewhere," explained Hardball NY President Bill Sullivan. "We invite baseball players to join us in this effort, for the good of the game of baseball."
The first shipments of equipment will go to Baseball Ireland -- the governing body of youth baseball in Ireland -- and various club teams throughout Ireland, including Cavan, Belfast, Ashbourne, Greystones, Munster and West Clare.
"Ballplayers in Ireland can put donated equipment to good use," explained Baseball United Foundation founder John Fitzgerald. "It's not easy to get quality equipment over there. In addition, donated equipment helps to lower the cost barrier to trying baseball, which makes it easier for young kids to try a sport that they may not be familiar with."
All used equipment is welcomed, especially bats, balls, helmets, gloves and catcher's equipment. If enough equipment is donated, additional shipments may go to other European countries in need.
The equipment collection will be ongoing throughout 2014. To donate, bring the equipment to Hardball NY, located at 102 Fairview Park Drive in Elmsford, NY.
