Announcing the ACCESS Program
for Students with Disabilities

Every worker needs to master basic skills. Although people with disabilities often face greater challenges when preparing for a career, Harford can offer valuable support. “A College and Career Experience for Self-Sufficiency” (ACCESS) program is piloting a Workforce Success Skills course as a first step for select students with disabilities in Harford County Public Schools. The course, which teaches soft skills and workforce skills that can be utilized in any career, will be available soon to a wider audience. Contact danielleanderson@harford.edu for more information.
Rape Aggression Defense

Rape Aggression Defense is a proven method that provides women with realistically employed self-defense tactics to protect and defend themselves from physical attack. Virtual Dual Enrollment

Enrolling in the Dual Enrollment program while still in high school can put your child on the road to future college success and save you money. Learn about options for completing classes (in high schools or on campus, when reopened), tuition and how the payment structure works, and how credits are applied to high school and/or college transcripts. The Pearson Vue Test Center
Open for Spring Semester

The Pearson VUE Testing Center has officially reopened for the spring semester! Conveniently located in Harford’s Edgewood Hall right at Entrance 3 off Thomas Run Road, the Pearson Vue Testing Center administers approximately 100 exams, including GED, CompTIA exams, NREMT, Cisco, and more. Click here to make an appointment to take an exam (subject to COVID-19 restrictions).
  
All visitors must fill out a Health Screening Questionnaire prior to coming to campus. Once it’s completed, you’ll receive a confirmation number to present at the Joppa Hall or Darlington Hall screening areas. A face mask must be worn at all times on campus and while taking your exam. Apprenticeship Opportunity

The Harford County Electrical Apprenticeship program is now accepting applications for the 2021-22 school year. Apprenticeship students earn while they learn! Receive on-the-job training with full-time employment and attend classes two evenings a week. Classes begin in September. For more info and to apply, click here.

ATHENA Leadership Awards Virtual Event
Friday, March 5 | 8-9 a.m.

The Harford Community College Foundation proudly hosts the 2021 ATHENA Leadership Award Event, presented by Harford Mutual Insurance Group. The ATHENA Leadership Award and ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award are presented to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in their career and assisted the advancement of women in their professional communities. Meet the finalists here. Event proceeds support the ATHENA Leadership Scholarship, a $1,000 award given to adult students returning to HCC.

The event is being held virtually this year due to the pandemic. Keynote speaker Rachel Druckenmiller will boost your confidence and empower you to advocate for yourself to more intentionally create the future you want. Tickets are $40 and sponsorship information can be found here.

Fall ‘20 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll

Harford’s Athletic Director Estevan Vasquez announced that 59 student-athletes earned a spot on the Athletic Director Honor Roll, with 17 Fighting Owls securing a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2020 semester, during which most classes were held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “I’m extremely proud of our student-athletes for fighting through this unprecedented time,” said Vasquez. To earn a spot on the AD Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 grade-point average while taking at least 12 credits. Read more here.
$1.5 Million Gift from Ratcliffe Foundation

The College's Foundation has received $1.5 million from the Phillip E. & Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation to establish Harford’s Leading Edge Training Center Powered by the Ratcliffe Foundation. As part of HCC’s Edgewood initiatives, the training center will address the high demand for workforce development and workers in the Route 40 corridor by providing advanced proficiencies in the manufacturing, warehousing/distribution, logistics, and skilled construction trades. It will be located in space provided by the Edgewood Boys & Girls Club and open in July 2021. Learn more here.
Winds of Leadership Donates to HCC’s Student Emergency Assistance Fund

Winds of Leadership, the philanthropic arm of the Harford Leadership Academy, donated $1,000 to the College’s Foundation to support Harford’s Student Emergency Assistance (SEA) Fund for currently enrolled students undergoing a short-term financial crisis. The fund helps them remain in school and continue their studies. From the beginning of the pandemic in March through August 2020, 50 Harford students were awarded $25,000 in SEA aid.
