Adam Clayton Powell Jr.
Coard: Adam Clayton Powell Jr., born on Nov. 29, 1908. Not only was he the first Black Congressman from New York, having been elected in 1945, he remains the most defiant, confrontational, and unapologetically pro-Black House (or Senate) member in U.S. history.

Manhattan's First Addiction Recovery Center Opens In Harlem
Krisel: The new Pillars Recovery Center on 289 St. Nicholas Ave. near West 125th Street will help people maintain sobriety after drug addiction treatment through services such as support and educational groups and 12-step programs, officials said Tuesday.

City Council approves East Harlem rezoning
Brenzel: The City Council on Thursday approved the rezoning of East Harlem, the third neighborhood to be rezoned under the mandatory inclusionary housing program.
