Harmony Public Schools El Paso welcomed their elementary teachers and students who chose in-person instruction back into the classroom this month.

Creating a safe and academically focused learning environment for students and staff members is the top priority at Harmony Public Schools. Therefore, students who returned to class found a safe and organized learning environment with a number of improvements and new wellness protocols designed to increase student and staff safety while retaining a fun, collaborative, and academically focused campus culture.
In addition, optional rapid COVID-19 testing is available to all students, teachers and staff upon their return.

"After months of careful preparation, we are so excited to welcome back our teachers and students into the classrooms," said Area Superintendent Dr. Kamil Yilmaz.

Students who have not opted for in-person instruction will continue virtual learning.
HSA 8th graders took the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment January 14th. This assessment is designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This program will also help determine what type of course will best meet the student's needs to assist them in becoming better prepared for college-level course work.
HSI seniors participated in a virtual zoom presentation with Mr. Steven Van Zwienen, from Workforce Solutions Borderplex. In the meeting they discussed "Hot Jobs" and reviewed the "Texas Career Check." He also shared examples from different jobs in the health sector, engineering, law enforcement, etc. to inform the seniors on possible job opportunities for the next 30 years, based on statistical data. It was a very interactive and engaging presentation that motivated the students for the exciting journey ahead of them.
The results are in! Kat the Cub is the name of our mascot. Nearly 1,000 of our students, staff, families and community members voted to name our HSS Cub in honor of Katherine Johnson, a famous American Mathematician.

A special thanks to everyone that voted.

Harmony School of Excellence celebrates National School Choice Week by hosting an art contest. This picture represents "collaboration" one of HSE's core values.

School choice means giving parents access to the best K-12 education options for their children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.
Meet the new HSA - Odessa Dean of Student Culture Ms. Laura Navarro. "I am very excited and grateful to be joining the HSA team and to be a part of the Odessa community. I have been teaching since 2006 and have a great passion for education. I am a first generation college student and believe education can empower individuals to contribute in a meaningful way to this world. My prior teaching experience has spanned across several states (New Mexico, Colorado, Louisiana, and Texas). I joined Harmony Public Schools as a teacher in El Paso, Texas in 2017. My hope is to be of service to teachers, students, and their families as your Dean of Student Culture at HSA. Thank you for this opportunity!"

COVID-19 has definitely made everyone rethink the way they do certain things, such as what surfaces they touch and their hand washing practices. To address this issue one of our 4th grade students made a motion sensored hand sanitizer dispensing robot. Check it out!
