Harmony Highlights:
Dec. 2020 Edition
A message from our Superintendent.
Happy holidays, to all of our students, families and staff from the Harmony Public Schools West Texas district. As we reflect on the unprecedented challenges we faced in 2020, I am so proud of how we came together and rose to the challenge. We truly are together in Harmony and I am more grateful than ever to have you as part of our Harmony family. I wish everyone a peaceful, joyous, and healthy holiday season and look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Kamil Yilmaz
The Harmony Science Academy -El Paso class of 2021 hosted a virtual Posada on December 18th. This was another opportunity to continue to promote and strengthen the camaraderie and unity amongst the senior class. Prior to the celebration, seniors stopped by the campus to pick up gift bags that included snacks, Loteria cards, and their senior shirts. It was a great night filled with games and laughter.

To get into the holiday spirit, the Harmony School of Innovation hosted a spirit week for students and staff from December 14-18th. Spirit week activities included wearing holiday socks, scarfs, pajamas, hats and sweaters.
The Harmony School of Science reached out to the Harmony community to help them name their mascot, the first tiger cub in the El Paso district. The top three STEM related names included on the survey for voting were: Kat the cub (in reference to "Hidden Figures" female mathematician Katherine Johnson), Apollo (in reference to the NASA Apollo Space Missions, and Hopper (in reference to female mathematician Grace Hopper.)

The winning name will be announced when we return from winter break.

Harmony School of Excellence hosted a winter parade December 17th, to celebrate the end of the first semester. Parents were encouraged to decorate their cars as teachers and staff passed out holiday treats to the students.
The Harmony Science Academy-Odessa hosted a Virtual Food Drive by collecting monetary donations for the local food bank. With so many people struggling this year because of the pandemic, HSA-Odessa wanted to do something to give back to the community. They are pleased to announce that they were able to surpass the goal of $500 in donations.

Harmony Science Academy Lubbock had the pleasure to host Dr. Jay Johnson, member-elect of the Texas State Board of Education representing District 15. Dr. Johnson made a socially distanced in-person visit to the campuses makerspace. Ms. Headlee's and Mr. Imran's technology students asked questions and showed off their robots and designs. To thank him for his visit, we gave Dr. Johnson a chessboard created with the makerspace laser cutter and 3D printers and wish him well in his new endeavor on the SBOE.
