Message From Our Superintendent

Welcome to a new school year—an exciting chapter where each day promises new learning, growth, and the joy of chasing our dreams together. As we shake off the summer and embrace the vibrant hues of fall, I am thrilled to share some uplifting updates that underscore the commitment and achievements of our Harmony family.

Let's begin with a round of applause for the 13 brilliant students from our district who have been honored by the College Board's National Recognition Program. This acknowledgment shines a light on those who excel academically while representing underrepresented groups. Our stars this year come from:

  • Harmony Science Academy-San Antonio
  • Harmony School of Excellence-Laredo
  • Harmony School of Innovation-Brownsville

These students have showcased exceptional dedication and resilience, achieving high honors as African American, Hispanic, and first-generation college students. To our students, their families, and everyone who plays a part in their education: your hard work is inspiring!

We are also proud to report that 12 outstanding scholars from the South Texas District scored perfectly on the 2024 STAAR test, demonstrating their commitment and the effectiveness of our educational programs.

Additionally, the Class of 2024 is setting high standards in career and technical education, significantly surpassing the state average with 70% of seniors qualifying as CTE Completers.

This season also brings great news for our hardworking teachers. Over 100 educators from our district are set to receive bonus incentives through the Texas Education Agency's Teacher Incentive Allotment program. This fall, accolades have been awarded for Master, Exemplary, and Recognized teaching levels:

  • 21 teachers achieved Master,
  • 49 achieved Exemplary,
  • 47 achieved Recognized.

These designations come with well-deserved salary boosts, rewarding our teachers for their tireless efforts and passion for education. It’s a clear indicator of the quality and commitment that define teaching at Harmony.

Every achievement reflects your support, dedication, and the strong community spirit that propels us forward. As we embark on this academic year, let's continue to support each other, celebrate every milestone, and build on our shared successes.

Thank you for being an integral part of our Harmony family. Here's to a fantastic school year filled with curiosity, learning, and shared achievements!

Warmest regards,

Selcuk Bakir

PROGRAMS

HB1416 Updates

Campuses are working on their HB1416 lists. We will be working on uploading the new student rosters to TIDE and then the data will be available in the Texas Assessment website.

Updates in PowerBI will be done by the end of next week Sep. 6th

We will then build the intervention groups for the required hours.

For the programs like IXL the central office will not purchase these items due to the integration issues. If the campus chooses to order the students will need to manually login to the program. The Central Office will consider adding this to the clever system for next year.

programs-of-study-faq-2024.pdf

How will programs of study affect A-F state accountability? Completion of a program of study is among the indicators used for evaluating the performance of high school campuses and districts that include high school campuses. To allow districts time to implement industry-based certification aligned to programs of study, the following transition timeline provides guidance on how the alignment will be phased in over the next three years. The requirement to earn an IBC plus an aligned level two or higher course applies for the Class of 2024, the Concentrator requirement applies for the Class of 2025, and the Completer requirement applies for the Class of 2026.

COMMUNICATIONS

Videographer Requests

If your campus needs updated footage of the front of your school, coverage of a big event, enrollment promotional videos, etc., please fill out this form on Monday.com with project details and the date you would need our Videographer from Central Office to visit.

Newsletter Entries

For the new school year, we will continue using Monday.com to collect campus news stories for the District Newsletter. Each campus should submit at least one story each month. This helps connect our families within the district and attract potential parents by showcasing the amazing things happening at your campus.

Facebook

During the next principals meeting, we will discuss your campus' Facebook analytics. I would like to congratulate HSA-Brownsville and HSI-Brownsville for reaching the targeted goal of five posts per week, resulting in strong engagement each month. Please ensure you are sharing news and updates on social media platforms regularly using Harmony branding. Once the Coordinator position in Laredo and the Intern position in Brownsville are filled, a social media training session will be held for all social media managers. This folder has been shared with all campus social media managers.
