Building on the important steps the Ontario government has taken to improve the regulatory climate in the province, CIAC recommended to further strengthen the sector, and the province’s economy, with a Chemistry Sector Action Plan in its 2022 Budget Consultation. This would include provincial action to continue its successful record of red tape reduction, advocating for Ontario businesses interests with the federal government and establishing Ontario as a regional leader within North America in the circular economy for plastics.

CIAC is pleased the Government of Alberta has committed to provide $30 million to ERA from the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund. The fund will accelerate development of industrial-scale carbon capture and transportation technology solutions in Alberta. “ERA’s Carbon Capture Kickstart call is one more step forward in securing global scale net zero and circular economy investments in chemistry in Alberta by capitalizing on the province’s abundant, low carbon natural gas-based energy and feedstocks, along with its world-leading and rapidly expanding carbon capture and storage infrastructure,” said Bob Masterson, President and CEO, Chemistry Industry Association of Canada.

Since the retirement of the CCPX 911 tank car in 2018, TRANSCAER members and partners have been seeking ways to evolve the safety training program and replace the training tank car. Working in partnership with CIAC members and partners, the Railway Association of Canada, and Transport Canada under the Rail Safety Improvement Program (RSIP), the development of the new TRANSCAER Safety Train is currently under way. 

The team has made progress on planning and designing the new Safety Train, and is now seeking donations to advance the project to the construction phase.
