Dear Katie,

Happy New Year!

Below are just a few of the posts that were shared in the Nature Watchers group in December. There were a lot of different birds spotted last month! Want to see the rest? Click here to join.

What are you seeing out there? We'd love to hear from you! Click here for more information about Harpswell Nature Watchers.

We saw a pair of Bald Eagles near Wyer Island in Harpswell Sound the other day. One was an immature and the other had the white head and tail. They soared over some Red-Breasted Mergansers, who briefly took flight, but landed again when they realized the eagles weren't hunting.

I caught this curious crow snooping around the feeder a couple days ago and snapped a photo while it was calling out to the rest of the gang. Notice the nictitating membrane on display!

There were Buffleheads (top) and Red-Breasted Mergansers (bottom) in the cove below the house. Good cheer for the season.
