Library News

New! Library news and special request :
Water is one of the worse ways to damage books. It wrinkles the pages and causes mold, which is infectious. Please help us protect our library books.

Remind your child that when they are  carrying books in a bag or backpack, don't add a water bottle to the bag. Hold

the water bottle separately or in a separate bag altogether.
This will help prevent our books from being damaged and the cost entailed to replace them. Thank you!

Six Flags Read to Succeed:

It's that time of year to start thinking about the Read to Succeed program sponsored by Six Flags Over Texas Theme Parks. Documenting your child's reading minutes is probably something you are already doing.

Now you can get a free Six Flag ticket if you simply use the document sent home in the Thursday folder.

All forms need to be turned in by Thursday, February 27, 2018. All your child needs to do is read for 6 hours. Start documenting today and let's go to Six Flags!

NEW! Author Visit

Children's author, Kate Klise, will be visiting Hart Elementary on February 22nd!  Kate Klise has written many amazing books including the "Three Ring Rascals" series and "43 Old Cemetery Road" series.

She will hold an assembly for all grades and will be available for pictures and book signing afterwards. Several of her books will be available to purchase ahead of time and be delivered in time for her to sign your child's personal copy. If you would like to purchase through RevTrak click here to find some of her books and place your order today. More information coming soon.

FLU SEASON REMINDERS:

We are currently seeing some Flu A/B, a flu like cold, allergy symptoms from the rise in mountain cedar, stomach virus, and strep. We have had some students with confirmed cases of Flu A and B. The most common symptoms are stomach ache, fever, headache, and tired-ness. Flu B is tricky because it initially mimics the symptoms of a stomach virus. Starting with stomach ache, then progressing a bit slower that Flu A with fever hitting within about 12-24 hours after complaint of initial symptoms. If you take your child into the doctor for flu-like symptoms,
please tell the physician that Flu cases are on the rise at school and they may want to Flu swab your child for appropriate diagnosis. We have also seen strep throat in which some are not experiencing typical symptoms of sore throat and fever (some only have stomach ache, headache, and just not feeling well).

Frequent handwashing is vital to keeping this illness at bay. Now is a good time to review proper handwashing practices with young children. Using soap and rubbing vigorously under running water for about 30 seconds to one minute is
important to get rid of the germs that cause the flu. Asking young
children to "sing the ABCs" at a steady rate while washing will help
them reach the 30 second mark.

As always please keep children at home if they have flu-like symptoms
or are running a fever. We ask that children be free from fever for 24
hours before returning to school to prevent illnesses from spreading. If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email [email protected] and [email protected] with the date and reason for the absence. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.

Please refer to the Lovejoy link provided (under the Clinic Department for Hart on the district web site) for more helpful Flu information.
