Sept. 21st - Sept. 28th
in the Hart Library!

Hart students LOVE to read!

Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Hart Family and Friends,

We have enjoyed welcoming our Dads@Hart this week!  You might have seen them helping with drop off in the morning, but they have been doing so much more than opening car doors.  After being introduced on the morning announcements, our Dads@Hart help in the classroom, in specials, in the library, and during lunch and recess.  If you would like to sign up to be a Dad@Hart, please join us at the Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 21st when sign up for the year officially opens.  You will have an opportunity to pick a day of your choosing, fill out a sign-up form, and complete the volunteer / background check.

Hart staff and students want to give a big shout out and thank you to the first Dad@Hart, Marc Sherrin, for bringing this amazing experience to Hart!  He has single handedly researched and organized this new program, and we love welcoming our dads on campus each day!

With a Full HeART,
Lacey Moser

Choir Practice has Begun:

New Info about dismissal ~ 3rd Grade Choir Practice has begun from 3:05-4:00 p.m. If you have a last name A-L, please pick up on south side, if your last name is M-Z, please pick up on the north side.

This is different than what was in this message last week. We apologize for the confusion. We eventually had 118 kids sign up for choir (that's wonderful), but that makes for too many children to dismiss from one location. Please pick up on both sides of the building like you would normally do.

Also, please encourage your children to wait in line as your car pulls up, and not to run to the curb until your car has come to a full stop. Thank you for your help in keeping our kids safe :0)

Tuesday Sept. 12th -  4th Grade Choir Practice begins at 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. All doors are open at 7:30 a.m. ** Please be advised that there's no supervision provided for children that are dropped off prior to 7:30 a.m. School opens, and choir practice begins, shortly after 7:30 a.m.

Chess Club has Begun:

To get a copy of the flier for chess club and to register online go to the following website: http://lovejoychess.weebly.com/school-chess-club-registration.html . If you have any questions please email Miles Knight at miles_knight@lovejoyisd.net
Student Birthdays and Class Treats

Please contact your student's teacher to make arrangements for date/time to bring birthday treats for your student. Each individual teacher will have knowledge as to a non-instructional time that is best suited to celebrate.

Please bring/send individual type treats (donuts, cupcakes, cookies) as opposed to goodies that have to be sliced and served.

Prior to choosing treats, please ask the teacher if there are any allergies to be aware of. Additionally, please do not bring treats to share in the lunchroom during lunch as feelings can be hurt when students are inadvertently left out due to seating.

Counselor's Corner

Over the next two weeks, students will learn about a school-wide program called Kelso's Choices when they visit my classroom for guidance.  Kelso is a friendly frog that helps students solve conflicts using a wheel of nine choices.  We will discuss the meaning of conflict and the difference between a big problem and a
small
problem.  Small problems are ones that bother us and make us feel sad, upset and/or angry, but are not dangerous or frightening.  Students are encouraged to try two of Kelso's choices to resolve a small problem before asking an adult for help.  Big problems may be dangerous or frightening and may result in someone or something getting hurt.  When student have big problems, they must tell an adult right away.  Click here for Kelso's wheel of choices and descriptions.

Please feel free to call or email me anytime.

Sincerely,
Ms. Kennaugh

#CharacterCountsatHart

This year, the character cops are looking for students demonstrating  any  of the six pillars of character:
respect citizenship responsibility trustworthiness
fairness , and  caring!

If they are caught, they will be handed a red "Hart Character Ticket" that they can write their name on and turn in to one of the 3 drop off locations.  Every Friday, Ms. Moser and Ms. Ross will draw names from each grade level on the announcements and students will earn a trip to the treasure box!
Library Happenings ~

Students are checking out books from the library like crazy!  That is a GREAT thing!!

If you child is in Kindergarten or 1st grade, please ask your child about the day assigned to them for returning books they are finished reading.  Students are working hard on taking responsibility for returning books on their library days.   All students can return and check out books any morning from 7:30 - 7:50.

Grades 2-4 will not have a regular library day but will return and check out books during the day as needed in their reading workshops.

Makerspace will startup soon, and the students are excited to get in there to check out some of the new items.   It is going to be a great year for exploring STEM and all kinds of activities - The possibilities are endless!

Get Ready!  THE WILD WILD WEST BO OK FAIR will be here Sept 21st - 28th
We kick off the book fair during the Ice Cream Social and continue the next week with Grandpa rent's Lunches.

If you would like to volunteer, we have all kinds of opportunities to sign up to help. Click   here  if you are interested in participating   as a volunteer during this exciting and busy time in the library! We love our volunteers! *Note: You must be a registered volunteer with the District.

We also welcome our new Library Tech  Aide, Michelle Fox to our staff. She is a great addition to the Hart library!   If you have any questions, please contact suzanne_hart@lovejoyisd.net.

For more volunteer opportunities in the library, see the Hart PTA page!
ILLNESS
Currently we are seeing a rise in allergies (ragweed is on the rise), strep throat, a nasty short lived stomach virus causing vomiting/diarrhea, headache, and stomach ache (some are not experiencing all of these symptoms). Most are NOT experiencing fever with this stomach virus. We are also seeing a cold virus, causing fever, sore throat, cough, stomach ache, and headache. This virus can last up to a week with fever usually lasting about 2 days.

*Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.

HEAD LICE
This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidences involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here's what to look for:

-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast

*We no longer conduct "line-up" classroom lice checks but if a child is having any sign/symptoms listed above, they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidences of lice. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab. On the left side there is a link that is always available for your education.

MISSING IMMUNIZATIONS
There are a handful of our students that are still missing appropriate documentation of immunizations per Texas State Regulations. Please get these to the school nurse, Allison Wright, ASAP so that your child can continue attending school. IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD AN EMAIL OR PHONE CALL FROM ME YET REGARDING MISSING IMMUNIZATIONS YOUR CHILD'S IMMUNIZATIONS SHOULD BE UP TO DATE. If required immunization documentation is not received (or process of series has not started if full series is required) we may have to delay school attendance until we have appropriate documentation. Please call me (Nurse Alli) with any questions, 469-742-8156.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Special thanks also goes to the Lovejoy community for your overwhelming support and generosity. You may click here for detailed information regarding the successful drive, and for photos.
Hurricane Relief - Senior Service Project
In light of the devastation caused by Harvey, Anthony Tang (LHS Senior) is leading the way to help those affected by the hurricane. From sorting toothbrushes to organizing fundraising drives in the district, Anthony has been doing anything he can to help the cause.

Anthony, a senior at Lovejoy High, first learned of the traumatic impacts of the storm when he contacted a childhood friend who lives in Houston. "My buddy's family was fortunately not severely affected because his house is on higher ground, but many other houses in surrounding neighborhoods were flooded and ruined. I can't imagine the troubles those families are facing, but I want to help in any way I can." Anthony has reached out and partnered with Trusted World and Salvation Army and has delivered boxes of donations to be transported from their warehouses. "It makes me smile to see how genuinely cooperative people are in this time of need. Everyone I have worked with seems so willing to help."

Anthony is requesting the help of fellow Leopards.  There is a need for clothes and shoes, especially for youth. Other supplies in need include Adult X-Large T-Shirts and undergarments, as well as Women's Sports-bras. If you wish to donate supplies or help pack donations to support this cause, please contact Anthony at:  tang_anthony@lovejoyisd.com
