Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Dear Hart Families,

What a week! With all the positive influenza and strep cases I wanted to inform all the Hart Families that we are taking steps to make sure the building is as sterile as possible. The custodial staff did a deep clean and sanitation on Monday and Tuesday night. The process will be repeated this weekend. I wish you all an amazing weekend. If you or your family happen to be ill, I will you a speedy recovery!

Please don't forget Denim & Diamonds is this weekend. It is one of my favorite nights and I hope to see many of our Hart parents as we celebrate LovejoyISD!!

Queen/King of Hart

Student Council will be selling hearts to help raise funds to build our 6th Well through Living Water International Organization.  All money raised will go to help build a water well in the name of Hart Elementary.

Hearts can be purchased in the cafeteria before school and during lunch. Heart sales begin February 7th and end February 14th at 11:00 AM.
Students can purchase hearts for the teacher and/or staff member they would like to see crowned as King or Queen of Hart! Small hearts will be sold for $1.00 each,  medium hearts will be sold for $5.00 each, and large hearts will be sold for $10.00 each. Votes will correlate with the dollar amount of the heart purchased. $1.00 heart equals 1 vote, $5.00 heart equals 5 votes, and $10.00 heart equals 10 votes. The Queen or King will be announced prior to dismissal on February 14.

Last year our goal was to raise $600.00. Thanks to the generosity of our Hart students and families, we raised $811.25!  This year we have set a goal of $1000.00! We know this goal is achievable!

Please help support a great cause and crown your teacher King or Queen of Hart!

Flu Season Reminders/Illness:

We are now having students with confirmed cases of Flu (mostly Flu type A). The most common symptoms are stomach ache, fever, headache, and tired-ness. If you take your child into the doctor for flu-like symptoms, please tell the physician that Flu cases are on the rise at school and they may want to Flu swab your child for appropriate diagnosis.

Frequent handwashing is vital to keeping this illness at bay. Now is a good time to review proper handwashing practices with young children. Using soap and rubbing vigorously under running water for about 30 seconds to one minute is
important to get rid of the germs that cause the flu. Asking young
children to "sing the ABCs" at a steady rate while washing will help
them reach the 30 second mark. We are also asking for donations of disinfectant wipes for the school. Please drop them off at the front office.

If your child needs to be picked up due to illness, please pick them up within 30 minutes. We understand there may be circumstances that may arise in which this is not possible. If this is the case, please reach out to your emergency contact to arrange pick up of your ill child.

As always please keep children at home if they have flu-like symptoms
or are running a fever. We ask that children be free from fever for 24
hours before returning to school to prevent illnesses from spreading. If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email Alis_Brantl@lovejoyisd.net and Heather_Bouska@lovejoyisd.net with the date and reason for the absence. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.

Currently we are seeing fifth's disease (some kids are not having fever or obvious viral symptoms, however, stomach ache/headache/tiredness/joint pains seem to be predominate initial symptoms), a stomach virus (12-24 hour virus, most do not have fever), some strep throat, and some other un-specified viruses.

Please refer to the following links in regards to Parvovirus B19 and Fifth's Disease.
Fifth Disease
Fifth disease is a mild rash illness caused by parvovirus B19. It is more common in children than adults. A person usually gets sick with fifth disease within four to 14 days after getting infected with parvovirus B19. This disease, also called erythema infectiosum, got its name because it was fifth in a list of historical classifications of common skin rash illnesses in children.
Signs & Symptoms
The symptoms of fifth disease are usually mild and may include
  • fever
  • runny nose
  • headache
  • rash
You can get a rash on your face and body
You may get a red rash on your face called
"slapped cheek" rash . This rash is the most recognized feature of fifth disease. It is more common in children than adults.
Some people may get a second rash a few days later on their chest, back, buttocks, or arms and legs. The rash may be itchy, especially on the soles of the feet. It can vary in intensity and usually goes away in seven to 10 days, but it can come and go for several weeks. As it starts to go away, it may look lacy.

Head Lice

This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidences involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here's what to look for:

-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast

*We no longer conduct "line-up" classroom lice checks but if a child is having any sign/symptoms listed above, they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidences of lice. However, if there has been a child in your child's classroom with a head lice diagnosis, you will receive a packet stating there has been a diagnosis in the class with more detailed info and education attached. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab. On the left side there is a link that is always available for your education.

Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.

If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email Alis_Brantl@lovejoyisd.net and Heather_Bouska@lovejoyisd.net with the date and reason for the absence. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.

A Message from the Superintendent
2019-2020 and 2020-2021 School Calendars

It is time for us to prepare school calendars for the next two school years: 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The administration will take the recommended calendars to our Board of Trustees for approval on February 20. As our practice has been, we are reaching out to you for input in order to create calendars yielding the greatest satisfaction among all Lovejoy ISD stakeholders. You will find a link to the survey below.

As your superintendent, I will work to preserve a calendar that is in the best interest of both teaching/learning and a calendar that facilitates student attendance, which generates state funding. Please find some considerations, which will influence our decision-making:

  • For instructional reasons, all school weeks must have a minimum of three attendance days with four days as the preference.

  • Holidays such as Christmas must allow enough travel time for families so that we do not see a decreased attendance rate on the last school day prior to a holiday e.g. Friday before Christmas break.

  • The start of the school year must allow sufficient days for teacher professional development and teacher workdays to ensure we are ready for school to begin.

  • Student holidays will be aligned to traditional holidays such as Columbus Day when practical.

  • Single student holidays must be strategically placed to allow appropriate teacher planning to support the instructional calendar e.g. a student holiday on the Monday after Thanksgiving would not be a good time for teacher planning as the semester is almost over.

You may click here to access a printable version of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 drafts. In general, these calendars are based on the current 2018-2019 calendar. You may click here to access the current calendar.

You may click here to complete the calendar survey. The survey will close at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 8. Should you have any questions regarding the survey please contact Stacey Dillon, Assistant to the Superintendent, at 469.742.8003.

As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.

With Respect,

Ted Moore
Superintendent

New! Lovejoy Student Hosts Toy Drive
Lovejoy High School Freshman, Katie Berman, requests your assistance with a toy drive she is organizing to benefit Ready Fighter One. Following you will find information from Katie:

"My plan is to host a toy drive from February 4 - 15. We are collecting items to donate to hospitals that treat children's cancer. Ready Fighter One was my friend MJ's last wish. MJ was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and passed away on the 11th. We are collecting:

Video Games
Playstations
Xboxes
DVDs
Toys
Board Games

Boxes for donations will be located at all campuses. MJ's school would not allow us to host the drive. I thought the next best thing would be to host it at Lovejoy. My team and I would handle all the details all we need is your support and time."

For additional information please contact katie.berman@icloud.com.
