Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Hart Family and Friends,

We had over 350 visitors join us for Grandparent's Day on Tuesday and Wednesday this week!  It was special to have so many of our fabulous grandparents and family members join us for lunch and visit our book fair.  I shared with Ms. Ross that these are two of my favorite days at Hart!

Speaking of lunch and visitors, we are excited to announce a change for parents and special visitors that come have lunch with students.  With our growing enrollment, not every grade level has space for a separate table, and it's always challenging for students to pick one friend to join them for lunch.  Instead of sitting at a designated visitor's table with a friend, we invite you to join your child at their regular lunch table. They will love having you there with all their friends (this was so obvious at our Grandparent's Day!)!

With a Full HeART,
Lacey Moser

Counselor's Corner

Over the next two weeks, students will learn about a school-wide program called Kelso's Choices when they visit my classroom for guidance.  Kelso is a friendly frog that helps students solve conflicts using a wheel of nine choices.  We will discuss the meaning of conflict and the difference between a big problem and a
small
problem.  Small problems are ones that bother us and make us feel sad, upset and/or angry, but are not dangerous or frightening.  Students are encouraged to try two of Kelso's choices to resolve a small problem before asking an adult for help.  Big problems may be dangerous or frightening and may result in someone or something getting hurt.  When student have big problems, they must tell an adult right away.  Click here for Kelso's wheel of choices and descriptions.

Please feel free to call or email me anytime.

Sincerely,
Ms. Kennaugh

#CharacterCountsatHart

This year, the character cops are looking for students demonstrating  any  of the six pillars of character:
respect citizenship responsibility trustworthiness
fairness , and  caring!

If they are caught, they will be handed a red "Hart Character Ticket" that they can write their name on and turn in to one of the 3 drop off locations.  Every Friday, Ms. Moser and Ms. Ross will draw names from each grade level on the announcements and students will earn a trip to the treasure box!
ILLNESS
Currently we are seeing a rise in allergies (ragweed is on the rise, strep throat, a nasty short lived stomach virus causing vomiting/diarrhea, headache, and stomach ache (some are not experiencing all of these symptoms). Most are NOT experiencing fever with this stomach virus. We are also seeing a cold virus, causing fever, sore throat, cough, stomach ache, and headache. This virus can last up to a week with fever usually lasting about 2 days.

*Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.

HEAD LICE
This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidences involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here's what to look for:

-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast

*We no longer conduct "line-up" classroom lice checks but if a child is having any sign/symptoms listed above, they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidences of lice. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab. On the left side there is a link that is always available for your education.

MISSING IMMUNIZATIONS
There are a handful of our students that are still missing appropriate documentation of immunizations per Texas State Regulations. Please get these to the school nurse, Allison Wright, ASAP so that your child can continue attending school. IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD AN EMAIL OR PHONE CALL FROM ME YET REGARDING MISSING IMMUNIZATIONS YOUR CHILD'S IMMUNIZATIONS SHOULD BE UP TO DATE. If required immunization documentation is not received (or process of series has not started if full series is required) we may have to delay school attendance until we have appropriate documentation. Please call me (Nurse Alli) with any questions, 469-742-8156.

Thank you for your cooperation and for your Clorox wipes donations!

Eagle Project:  Hurricane Harvey Relief
A message from Hunter Kight, WSMS 8th grader:

"My name is Hunter Kight, I am an 8th grader at Willow Springs, and I've just started my eagle project. I have chosen to help the hurricane Harvey victims for my project. Many of the victims did not have flood insurance and this looks to be the most costly natural disaster in U.S. history. The clean-up and rebuild effort will take more than a year. There is a time during disasters like this that charities experience donor fatigue. This is where donations drop to their lowest. Through my project I am trying to reduce donor fatigue, by collecting basic essential items. I have partnered with the Salvation Army to collect supplies like canned goods, baby food/formula, hygiene items, diapers and cases of water. Large donation boxes are located at each school to collect these items. I will leave these boxes out until November 3, 2017. Please consider supporting this effort by filling the boxes and helping the victims."
