Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Dear Hart Families,

It has been a fabulous week back from break and teaching and learning is back in full swing!  The Mosers are ready to cheer on some Hockey at the American Allen hockey game on Saturday night. I hope you can join us! Click here to purchase your tickets. Remember, $4.00 from every ticket sold is donated back to Hart.

The district is excited to announce the 3rd Annual STEM Festival to be held on February 29th from 10:00-3:00 at Lovejoy High School. We hope you will mark this date on your calendar and make plans to attend this STEMtastic event with your family. The STEM Festival also offers extra opportunities, like the CANgineering Competition and T-Shirt Design Contest, in which students and families can participate. Please click the following links to learn more about the STEM Festival. Videohttps://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ncf14vIe6ublO4cPHnefpF-cUi4RvryrFpu2iVG9fYA/edit?usp=sharing, and tshirt.

We would love to have a team represent Hart in the CANgineering challenge this year!  Be on the lookout for how to have your child join the competition, help through donating canned food, or volunteering to help design and lead a student group.

Hart is poised to have it's best semester yet! As always if you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

January is National School Board Appreciation Month.  This year in Lovejoy ISD, each campus will be recognizing one of our school board members for the entire month of January.  Hart is so excited to honor LISD school president Chad Collins.

Chad Collins was elected by his peers to serve as the President of the Lovejoy School Board of Trustees beginning in 2016. He previously held the office of Secretary since 2011, and began board service in 2010.  Mr. Collins is an alumnus of Lovejoy Elementary and graduated from Allen High School in 1992.  He received a bachelor's of business administration degree from Texas Tech University, earned an M.B.A. in general management from Cornell University, and attended multiple executive education programs at Harvard Business School.  Mr. Collins has spent the majority of his career in the healthcare field in biotech and pharmaceutical, medical device, and pharmacy verticals in a number of functional and executive roles while living in New York, New Jersey, Missouri, and Texas.  He is currently the U.S. Vice President of Sales of a global biopharmaceutical company.

Mr. Collins is a former Vice President of the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools.  He is a Texas PTA Honorary Lifetime Member and is a past President of the former Hart Elementary Dad's Club.  Mr. Collins has also volunteered for decades as a coach in youth sports beginning in 1998.

As a leader in school board business and operations, Mr. Collins has spent significant time meeting with Texas legislatures and lobbying on behalf of public education and Lovejoy ISD in Austin, while also collaborating with other school districts.  Time at the state capitol of Texas has also included providing public education committee testimony.

"I joined the Lovejoy ISD School Board because I want to assist in the growth and development of a district that is focused on setting the standard in public education," notes Mr. Collins.  "I believe that accountability, transparency, and collaboration are cornerstones to being a Trustee in Lovejoy ISD.  And, I believe in pursuing the best opportunities for all our students to reach their potential."

Mr. Collins was raised in Lucas, Texas, and after working around the country returned with his family in 2007.  He and his wife Kelly have been married for 22 years and have three children in the district.

Mr. Collins' leadership on the LISD school board is an excellent example of the LISD Graduate Profile pillar of Working for Justice Through Community Service.  We look forward to learning more about and celebrating Mr. Collins through the month of January.  Please take some time over the next few weeks to personally thank Mr. Collins for his service to Lovejoy ISD.

Hockey fun for the Hart Family!
Grab the family and enjoy a game of hockey close to home! This will be on Saturday January 11th . For every ticket purchased, $4 will be donated back to  Hart ! Tickets can be bought up until the day of the event.  Click  here  to buy tickets!

Hart is currently looking for a volunteer to be a chess puzzles coach. That person would assist the teacher. Please contact Amy Scott, amy_scott@lovejoyisd.net if you are interested in volunteering your time!

Notes from Nurse Alli

Just a gentle reminder that strep/flu/cold season is upon us. We have had a couple confirmed cases of Flu B and also a rise in strep throat. It appears that the predominate symptoms of the cases we have seen are stomach ache, sore throat, headache, and tired-ness followed by cough, fever, and dizziness. If I send your child home with a fever (or vomiting) or if your child is running fever at home, they MAY NOT return to school until they have been fever and vomiting free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of Advil, Tylenol or Multi-symptom cold relief medication. This is not only to protect all of their classmates, but also to protect your child whose immune system is already working hard.
Please click here or refer to the Lovejoy link provided (under the Clinic Department for Hart) for more helpful Flu information:

It is a good time to review proper handwashing practices with young children. Using soap and rubbing vigorously under running water for about 30 seconds to one minute is important to get rid of the germs that cause the flu. Asking young children to "sing the ABCs" at a steady rate while washing will help them reach the 30 second mark .
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 469-742-8156 or email me at allison_wright@lovejoyisd.net .
Thank you so much for helping to keep everyone healthy this season!

NEW! School Dismissal Manager
- School Dismissal Manager is the program we use to manage all student dismissals. If your student's Default Dismissal (standard daily dismissal) needs to change, please email Heather Bouska, heather_bouska@lovejoyisd.net , to have the changes made.   You can make changes (now called exceptions)  for the current day/week or other dates during the school year.

IF YOU HAVE GONE IN AND MADE MULTIPLE EXCEPTIONS THAT ARE THE SAME AS YOUR STUDENT'S DEFAULT DISMISSAL, THE SYSTEM WILL KICK THOSE EXCEPTIONS OUT AND WILL NOT PULL THEM TO THE DAILY REPORT THAT WE UTILIZE.  Please only make Exceptions for days that will be different from the default dismissal setting.

Please feel free to visit www.schooldismissalmanager.com for frequently asked questions or contact Heather Bouska in the front office.

Receive Text Messages from Lovejoy ISD
Lovejoy ISD is adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use for phone calls and email communications for information such as school closings due to inclement weather. SchoolMessenger will be configured to send text messages to your wireless phone number(s), with your approval.

To get started, please confirm we have your accurate wireless phone number in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and then opt-in to participate by following the directions below:

In order to receive messages from Lovejoy ISD or your student's school via SMS text we must have your wireless number(s) in SchoolMessenger and receive an "Opt-In Confirmation" from your wireless device.

You can easily opt-in by simply sending "Y" (or "Yes"), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number 67587.

The wireless number(s) you enter into the PowerSchool Parent Portal are updated nightly. If you update your wireless number, or add a new number, in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, the new number will automatically be sent an Opt-In message.
