Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser
Dear Hart Families,

Thank you so much to our Hart PTO for sponsoring the virtual Dennis Lee performance we all enjoyed today. The link for the performance is active until October 21st. Please click here to watch the performance!

Red Ribbon Week at Hart is October 26th - October 30th.
The theme this year is Best Today, Better Tomorrow, Forever Drug Free. We will have a week full of lessons to remind the students the importance of being drug free. In addition to lessons, we will have fun dress up days and daily activities. We will also be participating in the Allen Community Outreach (ACO) Caring Coins Drive. Every year during Red Ribbon Week we collect spare change. ACO will use the spare change collected to support the ongoing needs in Collin County. Please see below for the dress up day and coin schedule.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

With a full HeART,
Lacey Moser
NEW!!! Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is a special week recognized around the country. This week-long celebration of events is designed to educate and increase awareness about drug prevention. At Hart Elementary, we consider this a great time to pledge to be drug free and to reflect on ways that we can maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Red Ribbon Week activities will kick off on Monday, October 26th. During the week of October 26th-
October 30th, we will emphasize making responsible choices that can help students be and do their very best in school and in life. We would like to encourage everyone to bring healthy snacks to school and to participate in the fun dress-up days.

According to research, youth who feel they are contributing members of a caring community are less likely to be involved in illegal drug use. As part of our Red Ribbon Week activities, Lovejoy students will have the opportunity to feel connected to the Collin County community. We will emphasize participating in a healthy activity that benefits others by participating in a service project to support Allen Community Outreach (ACO). Each year during the month of October, ACO has a fundraiser called the Caring Coins Drive in which they encourage donations of spare change to support the ongoing needs in Collin County. Let’s encourage our students to contribute to this service organization by bringing in their American coins and/or bills each day of the week. Their generous contributions will assist residents of Allen, Lucas, and Fairview who are in financial need.

Let’s Participate in a Healthy
Activity that Benefits Our Community!

Hart will be a hosting our 1st ever Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Drive-Thru Parade on October 29th from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. The parade will take place in the south parking lot of Hart. This is an optional family project to be completed at home. Pumpkins should be decorated as your favorite book character. You can use paint, markers, yarn, pipe cleaners, fabric, cardboard, or even carve the pumpkin to create your character. Pumpkin drop off will be at the front entrance of Hart on October 29th from 7:30 am to 8:45 am. Please click here to complete a Google form if you plan to participate. Students (and families) will vote for their favorite. We will have a total of 5 winners! The winners will be announced on October 30th. The winners will receive a $15.00 gift card to our virtual book fair and be featured in Mrs. Moser's principal message!

Pumpkins can be picked up after the parade on October 29th. Pumpkins left on campus after dismissal on October 30th will be disposed of.

A word from Nurse Allison
This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidents involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here’s what to look for:
-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast
*We no longer conduct “line-up” classroom lice checks but if a child is having signs or symptoms listed above, they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidents of lice. However, if there is a student in your child class that has a known case of lice, paper notification will be sent home with your child at the end of that day. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab.

We are seeing quite a bit of strep, allergy related symptoms, and a cold like virus (not coronavirus). The predominant symptoms of this virus seem to be stomach ache, sore throat, low grade fever and headache.

Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.

*** Please copy Nurse Alli on (ALL) absences your student might have. Due to the current pandemic situation, I am tracking every absence. I need this information as to why your student might be absent whether it is for a routine dr appt or illness.***

I have had many questions from parents in regards to symptoms that their child may be exhibiting and whether exclusion from school is needed. I am sharing the following information directly from the Lovejoy ISD Planning Guide which is located on our website. On page 24 you will find some helpful information in regards to Health Pre-Screening for Staff and Students. I am hoping this will help clear up some questions. Please click here to access our Planning Guide.
