Dear Hart Families,
Red Ribbon Week at Hart is next week, October 26th - October 30th.The theme this year is Best Today, Better Tomorrow, Forever Drug Free. We will have a week full of lessons to remind the students the importance of being drug free. In addition to lessons, we will have fun dress up days and daily activities. We will also be participating in the Allen Community Outreach (ACO) Caring Coins Drive. Every year during Red Ribbon Week we collect spare change. ACO will use the spare change collected to support the ongoing needs in Collin County. Please see below for the dress up day and coin schedule.
We hope you plan to participate in the drive-thru pumpkin parade on October 29. Please complete the google form here no later than Tuesday, October 27. This will ensure we have a special place for each pumpkin entry.
Hart PTO is kicking off the Lovejoy Letter Campaign. Hart PTO is also doing something new this year to show our Hart teachers and Staff appreciation. Please be sure to scroll to the Hart PTO section for more information!
We also have updates regarding lunch service. Beginning Monday, October 26, students will be able to make a selection of sides instead of being given all sides. Each meal will still consist of a protein, milk, fruit and/or vegetable. Students are still not able to touch any of the food, drinks or a la carte items while in the serving line.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
With a full HeART,
Lacey Moser

NEW!!! Dismissal Reminders
|
|
We wanted to extend a couple reminders regarding dismissal. Students with the last name beginning A-G will dismiss on the South side (yellow), last name H-P front side (red), and last name Q-Z North side (blue).
Please be courteous to our Hart neighbors and not use their driveways as turn around spots. Many of our neighbors have gravel driveways and constant turning around causes the gravel to move. We ask that you utilize Creek View Lane and then turn right on Honeysuckle Lane. We have provided a map below for reference.

NEW!!! Veterans Day Celebration
|
|
Hart will honor Veterans with a virtual presentation on November 11th. To ensure we recognize all our Hart staff, family, and friends who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces we invite you to complete this Google Form and upload photos for our presentation. Photos can be uploaded directly into the form from mobile devices or computers. Please upload photos by November 4th. If you have any questions please contact Brooke_Grall@lovejoyisd.net.

NEW!!! Lovejoy Letter Campaign
|
|
Lovejoy Family!! The 7th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun! Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.
The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and administration in our district. It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.
Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher’s name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at specified location of each campus no later than Friday November 13th. Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year in these very unusual times!

Red Ribbon Week is a special week recognized around the country. This week-long celebration of events is designed to educate and increase awareness about drug prevention. At Hart Elementary, we consider this a great time to pledge to be drug free and to reflect on ways that we can maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Red Ribbon Week activities will kick off on Monday, October 26th. During the week of October 26th-
October 30th, we will emphasize making responsible choices that can help students be and do their very best in school and in life. We would like to encourage everyone to bring healthy snacks to school and to participate in the fun dress-up days.
According to research, youth who feel they are contributing members of a caring community are less likely to be involved in illegal drug use. As part of our Red Ribbon Week activities, Lovejoy students will have the opportunity to feel connected to the Collin County community. We will emphasize participating in a healthy activity that benefits others by participating in a service project to support Allen Community Outreach (ACO). Each year during the month of October, ACO has a fundraiser called the Caring Coins Drive in which they encourage donations of spare change to support the ongoing needs in Collin County. Let’s encourage our students to contribute to this service organization by bringing in their American coins and/or bills each day of the week. Their generous contributions will assist residents of Allen, Lucas, and Fairview who are in financial need.
Let’s Participate in a Healthy
Activity that Benefits Our Community!

HEAD LICE
This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidents involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here’s what to look for:
-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast
*We no longer conduct “line-up” classroom lice checks but if a child is having signs or symptoms listed above, they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidents of lice. However, if there is a student in your child class that has a known case of lice, paper notification will be sent home with your child at the end of that day. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab.
We are seeing quite a bit of strep, allergy related symptoms, and a cold like virus (not coronavirus). The predominant symptoms of this virus seem to be stomach ache, sore throat, low grade fever and headache.
Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.
*** Please copy Nurse Alli on (ALL) absences your student might have. Due to the current pandemic situation, I am tracking every absence. I need this information as to why your student might be absent whether it is for a routine dr appt or illness.***
I have had many questions from parents in regards to symptoms that their child may be exhibiting and whether exclusion from school is needed. I am sharing the following information directly from the Lovejoy ISD Planning Guide which is located on our website. On page 24 you will find some helpful information in regards to Health Pre-Screening for Staff and Students. I am hoping this will help clear up some questions. Please click here to access our Planning Guide.

James Wand-Operation Be Smart
|
Operation Be Smart is a great way to teach our students about the dangers of alcohol, cigarettes/vaping and drugs. This is much more than a “Just Say No” type assembly. James explains to the kids why these substances are harmful and provides techniques to help avoid them in an age-appropriate way.
James Wand shows kids how to say “no!” to alcohol, cigarettes/vaping and drugs and “YES!” to a bright future.
James Wand believes that unless the children are engaged and entertained they will not pay attention to the important message. The audience is spellbound by his amazing tricks and captivated by an exciting story of secret agents and evil enemies!
In honor of Red Ribbon Week, this program will be available virtually on October 30th, 2020. The link will be sent out soon!
