A Note Beyond the Halloween Fun
This was meant to be a joyful Halloween edition, where the only things haunting us are ghosts, goblins, and goolies. But some more serious news bears noting: the federal government shutdown threatens to leave over 65,000 Vermonters without 3SquaresVT (SNAP) or LIHEAP support this November (Seven Days).
Currently Vermont’s House leaders plan to fully fund these programs at the state level, ensuring working families, low-income households, and older Vermonters can still access food and heating fuel assistance. (VTBiz)
For neighbors facing uncertainty, local organizations—including The Haven, Cornerstone Community Center, The Family Place, Listen, and others, are accepting donations.

Trunk or Treat Twofer
Attention, parents of little ones (and the young at heart.) Hartford has not one, but two Trunk or Treat events this Halloween season — because apparently, there’s no such thing as too much candy in a parking lot or park.

Hosted by the WRJ VA Employees Association

Halloween at VINS
Saturday, October 25 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

All Hallows’ Eve: Spooky Tunes, Songs & Tales from Scotland
Sunday, November 2 | 3:00 PM | Artistree
Join Scottish musician Louise Bichan and her band for an afternoon of eerie melodies and haunting folklore from the Celtic Isles. Expect songs of trowies, sea serpents, and selkies—woven together with stories and poems that blur the line between concert and séance.
Guests are encouraged to come as themselves—or in disguise, should they wish to keep the spirits guessing. Bring along your most impressively carved turnip or pumpkin for a chance to win a prize (battery candles only, lest things get too authentic).
