Hartzler Announces Bid for Re-Election
"We can unleash the American potential our children deserve"

(Jefferson City) - Citing her local work representing Missouri families and her legislative record of accomplishment in Washington, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler made the following statement today, announcing her bid for re-election to the U.S House of Representatives.

"As a lifelong farmer, public school teacher, small business owner, wife, mother, and daughter of an Army Reservist, it has been my utmost honor to represent the good people of Missouri's 4th District in our nation's Capitol. Every week I have taken the common-sense ideas and Heartland values we hold dear to Washington and worked to find solutions to the challenges our nation is facing. As a result, we have passed historic tax relief, restored much-needed funding to our national defense, and tackled the issues plaguing too many communities. I want to continue to build on that progress and humbly ask for your vote this November. Together we can unleash the American potential our children deserve."

Hartzler has been a relentless champion for a strong national defense serving in leadership on the House Armed Services Committee as a subcommittee chairman. "There is no higher priority than to provide for the common defense," Hartzler stated. "I am proud to represent Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leonard Wood--an essential part of America's national defense. My continued advocacy for our bases, those who serve there, and our veterans will continue to be a mainstay of my service.

Making government work for the people has been another priority of Hartzler's. After historic flooding struck the region, it became evident the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was not providing the timely, coordinated assistance needed. Hartzler acted. She passed legislation to require FEMA to address these shortfalls. "The people deserve prompt action," stated Hartzler, "Now that my bill is law, families across America will receive the help they deserve so they can begin to rebuild their lives after a disaster."

Hartzler has also led the way with local initiatives to address drug trafficking, drug abuse, and school safety. "My prayer for this district is that every individual gets to live out their full potential. I have listened and acted to address concerns that are harming our communities and destroying so many families. Although the scourge of human trafficking has made an impact on Missouri, we have fought back. I am encouraged that my legislation providing additional funding to combat human trafficking passed the House in strong bi-partisan fashion. I am also pleased the House passed my legislation assisting law enforcement in protecting rural schools from violence.

In addition, I launched "A Drug Free Missouri" initiative to combat drug abuse," Hartzler said. "I have held multiple high school assemblies, supported the formation of drug recovery courts in our counties, held a district-wide Drug Summit, supported local law enforcement and drug take-back campaigns, visited with those in recovery and leaders of drug treatment centers and ministries in our district and co-sponsored legislation addressing opioid addiction. It is a good beginning, but we cannot give up," Hartzler said. "I look forward to continuing to work with local leaders to encourage and equip everyone to live drug free."

In addition to serving on the House Armed Services Committee, Hartzler is a respected member of the House Agriculture Committee as Missouri's only member of Congress advocating for Missouri's Number One industry. "Fewer and fewer leaders in Washington understand rural America. As a lifelong farmer, I bring a real-life perspective needed as policy is being formulated whether that be championing the expansion of rural broadband or the need for quality jobs in rural communities. It's an honor to speak up for our farmers and ranchers and all who understand and appreciate the strength of country life."

Hartzler is also Chair of the House Values Action Team comprised of over 100 House members championing the foundational principles of faith, family, and freedom in our U.S. Capitol.

"My time in Washington has been a blessing and I am truly grateful for the trust you have put in me to represent you and your families," Hartzler added. "With your support, I look forward to continuing the work of securing America's promise for future generations."
