This year marks the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Center for Bioethics. We are grateful for your ongoing involvement with the Center. There are now more than 10,000 subscribers to our email lists, and countless others who have attended events, participated in educational programs, or follow us on social media.
 
We invite all members of the Center community to attend a celebration of the Center's first five years on May 14 - 15. Save the dates now and we'll share more information with you soon.

Registration is now live and poster abstracts will be accepted until March 2. Annual Bioethics Conference: March 9–10
This year’s annual bioethics conference will examine how ethics interacts with biotechnology in medicine, and will consider multiple approaches to how we might ensure that biotechnology continues to evolve ethically.

Political theorist and classicist Danielle Allen, PhD, director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard delivered the annual Gay Lecture on November 21.

For too long, scientists have focused on the dark side of our biological heritage, but natural selection has given us a suite of beneficial social features too. Blueprint introduces the idea that our genes affect not only our bodies and behaviors, but also the ways in which we make societies, ones that are surprisingly similar worldwide.

  • The Hastings Center announced the election of 12 new Hastings Center Fellows — individuals of outstanding accomplishment whose work has informed scholarship and public understanding of complex ethical issues in health, health care, science, and technology. Center Executive Director Christine Mitchell is a 2020 fellow.

  • Fellowship alum Lisa Moses weighed in on NPR about the growing trend of DNA testing for pets.


  • Nurse scientist and clinical ethicist Aimee Milliken—who teaches Introduction to Clinical Ethics at the Center—participated in this Q&A with Brigham and Women's Hospital.
