Unsilent Night
December 14th
5pm – 6pm
Be a part of the music where Harvard Square is our score! Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night is an original composition written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a cassette, CD, or MP3. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. The fact that the participants play different "parts" simultaneously helps create the special sound of the piece. Participants carry boomboxes, or anything that amplifies music, and simultaneously start playing the music. Our carefully chosen route through streets of the Square will create a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listener's perspective.
Please join us at 5pm outside of Longy School of Music of Bard College (27 Garden Street) as we begin our stroll through Harvard Square!
For details on how to register and what to bring, please click here.
For additional details, including the walk’s accessibility, please click here.
Unsilent Night is sponsored by The Harvard Square Business Association, Cambridge Arts Council, Longy School of Music of Bard College, Clary and Cimermantis Little Free Library and New Gallery Concert Series.

In-Person Presentation 2:00-2:30pm Science Spotlights: Short of Breath? Here’s a Rock
Meet up-and-coming scientists and learn about questions at the forefront of research today in this series of short talks.
Federica Calabrese, Postdoctoral Fellow, Girguis Lab
When we think of electricity, we often picture wires, circuits and generators. But did you know that living things can also produce electricity? In fact, electricity powers many of the biological processes in living things, including us! Even more surprising is that bacteria can use electricity to “breathe rocks.” What does this mean exactly? Join Harvard scientist Federica Calabrese as she uncovers how some microbes evolved to live in oxygen-free environments and how we can harness “bioelectricity” to power our own electronic devices.
20-minute talk followed by 10-minute Q&A session. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Dear friends,
For the past 11 years, I have worked with First Parish Cambridge Unitarian Universalist, Harvard Square Business Association, Hilton’s Tent City, and the Central Square Business Improvement District, on the Winter Warmth Drive, a fundraising effort to purchase sleeping bags for unhoused people in Cambridge.
Today we are launching year 12! These sleeping bags are essential as the weather gets cold. Our goal is to raise $20,000. The sooner we raise these funds, the sooner we can purchase the bags. Any amount is welcome.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation today.
Thank you!

Harvard Museum of Natural History
Arthropods: Creatures That Rule
Open daily 9:00 am-5:00 pm; see website for Holiday Hours
Featuring hands-on activities, dramatic specimen displays, colorful video and graphics, and even live animals, this exhibition draws on the latest scientific research to explore arthropods’ extraordinary evolutionary success and their impact on our lives. Evolving for more than 500 million years, these creatures range in size from giant king crabs to microscopic mites, represent over eighty percent of all animal species, and have colonized every corner of the planet. Now including two new smaller-scale exhibits within the gallery:
Making the Invisible Visible: Digitizing Invertebrates on Microscope Slides showcases the Museum of Comparative Zoology’s collections of glass microscope slides. The data will be made available to the public, allowing researchers across the globe to learn from Harvard’s collections.
Velvet Worms: A Fierce Hunter with a Secret Weapon is a smaller-scale exhibit in the Arthropods Gallery that shines a light on this little-known creature in a category of its own. Velvet worms are not worms—or caterpillars. They are the closest relative to arthropods, and they have remained largely unchanged for 300 million years.

We’re a welcoming and laid-back group that has been serving the Cambridge community since 1922. If you're looking to make a meaningful impact, build authentic relationships, and get involved in local service, we’d love to meet you! We meet on the first and third Thursday of each month in Harvard Square for a casual brown-bag lunch with inspiring guest speakers. Our club is all about connection, community, and giving back.
For membership inquiries, email us at info@cambridgerotary.org. Also, check us out at cambridgerotary.org.

Season To Taste
Christmas Dinner For Four To Go is back at Season To Taste! We just placed our order of whole beef rib cuts with Andy Carbone, our Massachusetts grass fed beef source. The ribs will age for a week and then sous vide to a perfect 125 rare. On Christmas Day, just heat the sides and crisp up the standing roast to your preferred temp.

WELCOME TO HARVARD SQUARE!
“Lower priced for a reason.” This phrase encapsulates how MUJI first began in 1980. We launched products that might almost be regarded as substandard if based on traditional criteria. Focusing on our three priorities of “selection of materials,” “streamlining of processes,” and “simplification of packages,” we have grown into a brand with over 7,000 no-frills quality products.
This site introduces MUJI from various perspectives such as “Message from MUJI” “Products and Services” “Stores” and “MUJI’s Expanding Activities.”
